Of the small amount of time he actually spent with him, he said the only thing that struck him was the fact that he just lied constantly about pretty much everything to pretty much everyone
Please paste that onto the Boris Johnson thread too.
Cheeks.
Same.
Arse.
Trump said on his platform today:
"To the many investors coming into the United States and investing massive amounts of money, my policies will never change,"
"This is a great time to get rich, richer than ever before," he adds.
So yes, the rich will get richer, which is all he is really interested in.
You have to wonder about the level of evil of someone making a political point on the back of the poorest people on the planet
I watched an old clip, probably 1980s, of Trump explaining to Oprah how he'd impose high tariffs on the friendly countries rather than the unfriendly ones. His rationale being that it's easier to get the friendly ones to agree because the unfriendly ones would hit back ..Don is clearly a full on Russian asset, tasked by Vlad to bankrupt and destabilise the west, it's the only explanation 😉
It reminded me of a bully I knew in school. Lots befriended him in the hope of avoiding his quick fists. But they actually got hit the most because he felt safer hitting them than other kids he didn't know as well and wasn't as confident of not getting hit back.
So, where does all the money "go" when there's a huge sell off of stocks?
Even if both large and small investors sell off share and stick the resultant funds in a high interest savings account in the Nationwide, the Nationwide has got to "invest" those funds to, at least, cover the interest due.
(All of which is a roundabout way of asking who is making a shit ton of money during this great sell off, and how?)
So, where does all the money "go" when there's a huge sell off of stocks?
AIUI they largely lend it to the government by buying bonds.
the nobber has lost me 2.5% on the value of my pension
Currently, I'm down about 18 months worth of pension...having said that, my pension has done pretty well over the last couple of years so it's "only" a paper loss at the moment 🤷
(I've been fairly heavily invested in a US index fund for about 15 years so it's been a rollercoaster...)
(All of which is a roundabout way of asking who is making a shit ton of money during this great sell off, and how?)
Short sellers will be doing well if they got in just before.
The main way though is if you have plenty of cash available for long term investments then buying as the market craters will generally result in good profits in a few years time. Although previous performance blah blah may be very relevant with Trump setting fire to everything he can find.
If this isn't the clearest example of why almost unlimited executive power is a Bad Thing, I don't know where else to look.
So, where does all the money "go" when there's a huge sell off of stocks?
Someone will buy the dip and keep hold of them until they recover.
Yes Trump is a liar, that is an undisputable fact. It doesn't however mean that American voters don't know what their experiences were during Trump's first term. If they found a job after being unemployed for a period of time, or saw their wages increase in real terms, or were lifted out of poverty, or/and saw friends and family members experience the same, then that is likely to have affected how they voted.
That was before the Tangerine Mussolini had full control of the government, and he didn’t have Elonia as his First Lady as an enabler, and before they started to shut down vast parts of the government and sack tens of thousands of workers, many of whom will struggle to find jobs, the destruction of America’s health systems will almost inevitably result in large numbers of unnecessary deaths, and the repercussions will be enormous right across the entire world.
I doubt many of those ordinary blue-collar workers will have had the slightest comprehension of the colossal shitstorm that’s coming their way.
Weather forecasts will be poorer, the help given by the government after huge storms and floods will be vastly reduced, because of course, all that money is being wasted on a bunch of losers who nobody cares about.
Diaper Don needs to be arrested and impeached, however, with the control he has over sections of the government involved with security, like the FBI and NSA, it’s hard to see who would have the balls to arrest him.
Seems like this is all part of his grand plan to tank the entire economy, in order to make everyone rich…
So, where does all the money "go" when there's a huge sell off of stocks?
Someone will buy the dip and keep hold of them until they recover.
They will still probably be paying dividends no?
They will still probably be paying dividends no?
Oh yeah, some will. The volume of shares I've ever owned barely factors into my ownership calculations though.

For someone to sell,.someone else has to buy at the same value.

'Timing the dip' is another matter entirely... I think we will see further global stock market losses over the next few weeks as countries place counter-tarrifs on the Trump regime.
I suspect there will also be a long slow recovery, several years or more, rather than a 'bounce back'.
All those tech Bros that donated millions to trumps 'inauguration' fund must be feeling a bit foolish right now theyres seeing billions wiped off their value caught between china & usa in a trade war
lols
wonder gow vance is taking it as hes been their link to trump
Errrrrrr hello, wakey wakey...
The era (century!) of US exceptionalism has just ended. There is currently no good reason to be holding US equities, and there are an awful lot of people heading for the door. My recommendation would be to join them whilst you still have some profits.
Short of a motorcade through Dallas is there a process to get rid of him ?
Don is clearly a full on Russian asset, tasked by Vlad to bankrupt and destabilise the west, it's the only explanation 😉

Thats what wrong with trump, and those of his ilk. He needs the mother of all kickings, given the chance (15 years ago) I’d very happily put myself forward for the job of rearranging his face
Well obviously Trump is very pleased with this, although obviously the small increase in unemployment will be ignored
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/apr/04/labor-department-us-jobs-report-march
The US added 228,000 jobs in March, far more than expected
"GREAT JOB NUMBERS, FAR BETTER THAN EXPECTED. IT’S ALREADY WORKING. HANG TOUGH, WE CAN’T LOSE!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The era (century!) of US exceptionalism has just ended.
Unless this presidency is brought to a swift end, or Trump stays in post but is reined in with his madcap antics, I'm inclined to agree with that.
Looking from the outside in, the US looks absolutely in the toilet from where I'm sitting.
It *could* be a good thing in the long term, that nations need to work between themselves without the US looming large and intervening, however there are one hell of a lot of risks.
I really, really feel for sensible reasonable folk in the US right now. Must feel a lot like just after the Brexit vote did for me - ashamed of your own nation and what it had become
Does "jobs added" mean individuals who were previously unemployed, are now employed in FT roles? So a net gain in overall employment?
Call me sceptical but I'm not sure I'd fully trust any federal government statistics under the Trump regime...
(And note that ADP has the number at 155k, not 228k, for March, though ADP only cover private sector. So, unless the individual States have been in a hiring frenzy to offset the huge number of Federal employees being terminated, something seems amiss...)
the unemployment rate actually rose to 4.2% which is joint highest since 2022 and higher than expected
Which means more people in work, but more people looking for work
the figures only included 4000 in federal worker losses, with another 250k plus announced by musk's team , so Aprils figures could be grim im sure he won't mention that!
meanwhile biggest stock crash since COVID is hard for even trump to pretend is all part of the plan
Im just waiting for China to use this chaos to finally make their move on Taiwan!
Double post glitch
Does "jobs added" mean individuals who were previously unemployed, are now employed in FT roles? So a net gain in overall employment?
I think it just means extra jobs, so say a firm that was previously employing 100 people and since March has been employing 110 people this has added an extra 10 to the total.
By all means be sceptical of the figures provided by the US Bureau of Labor statistics but I don't think that anyone is doubting them. And if they are being manipulated in Trump's favour then they will certainly have their job cut out in a couple of months time when the shit hits the fan.
Here's more detail from the news provider Trump loves to hate, CNN
https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/04/economy/us-jobs-report-march-2025/index.html
is there a process to get rid of him ?
Potentially - he can be impeached (but that’s very hard to do - you need a smoking gun and outrage even among his own party, I don’t think there is actually either) or he could be found mentally unfit for office which whilst I think there is a strong argument for I think getting that through would be almost as hard as impeachment!
BUT if you displace Trump you don’t get a new election, you get Vance.
So impeach JD Vance as well !
Vance must surely also be a candidate for treason.
the line of succession just gets worse, i think mike Johnson is next, somehow you'd end up with musk or hulk higan
I've just engaged a work colleague - who has never once shown any interest in economics past how much his health insurance costs - about his questioning "why do 170 countries have tariffs on the USA?"
I'll report back with insights into the thinking of a full-blooded MAGA
If this isn't the clearest example of why almost unlimited executive power is a Bad Thing, I don't know where else to look.
They should have created two other branches to keep the executive in check.
Oh.....
You know how archaeologists dig up previous great civilisations and try and piece together how they lived and why they collapsed?
In 2000 years, the next Howard Carter will be digging through the USA. Hopefully just the USA.
Maybe this is just another historical reset.
Hopefully said archaeologists will find a large orange man with a 9 iron around his neck.
Short of a motorcade through Dallas is there a process to get rid of him ?
Probably more likely in NY or San Francisco.
In another reversal of what should be acceptable norms...
Woman I know is taking part in a mass Anti Trump day of action today across every State , wonder what the turn out will be like and if it will get any coverage over here ?
They should have created two other branches to keep the executive in check.
Nah you dont need that. Remember we have the NRA willing to stand up against tyranny with their pimped up AR-15s.
Any minute now they will be leaping into action.
right?
ermmm ok maybe they are having a teabreak/waiting for some cash from Russia but they will soon.
Woman I know is taking part in a mass Anti Trump day of action today across every State , wonder what the turn out will be like and if it will get any coverage over here ?
I doubt it will get much coverage. We seem to be determined to brown nose and appease wait and see at all costs. Especially to our dignity.
If the protests are large and significant there won't be a conspiracy by the media in the US and the UK to ignore them.

Those that forget the economics lesson from Ferris Bueller's Day off (which will include Ferris Bueller I suppose) are condemned to repeat it
(Did you know that the school Ferris Bueller takes a day off from is the same school The Breakfast Club do their detention in )
The European protests and the upcoming American protests, were mentioned on radio 2 news.
"So many issues, so little cardboard" is genius!
It was good mannered and very jovial at times. Broad range of people taking part inc old Scottish man
"So many issues, so little cardboard" is genius!
I've seen that on a Palestine solidarity demo in London recently, or words to that effect
Anyone seen/heard from fishface farage ?, trumps best buddy.
Now these tariffs have been implemented the prick has completely disappeared from the limelight.

Oh Farage isn't keeping quiet at all. I saw this video yesterday in which he describes Trump as his "mate" who is doing "quite well"
And then there is this where he claims that he would have done a better job of grovelling to Trump than Starmer:
But worse of all an opinion poll out this weekend gives Reform UK their biggest ever lead over Labour and the Tories, 6%
https://findoutnow.co.uk/blog/voting-intention-2nd-april-2025/
I guess Starmer publicly saying that he "likes and respects" Donald Trump doesn't help to make the case against Nigel Farage.
Even the BBC have a piece on the US protests.
BBC News - Anti-Trump protesters gather in cities across the US

There's a theory that the protests are part of the plan, the end goal being imposing martial law.
Well Trump has managed one thing, previously thought impossible. The editorials in the Times and the Guardian/Observer are pretty much identical. Decrying Trumps economic illiteracy and saying that this is the opportunity to build closer economic ties with all the other large economic powers to do the exact opposite of America.
Quietly undoing the economic stupidity of Brexit would be a good place to start, as that now looks like completely indefensible and self-defeating folly in the light of last weeks economic vandalism
There's a theory that the protests are part of the plan, the end goal being imposing martial law.
He's pretty clever that Donald Trump, getting people to disagree with him just so that he can impose martial law.
Genius!

When we talk about him needing a pretext to declare an emergency, cancel elections and get his third term....
He isn't clever. He's greedy, and his backers are the clever ones.
I'd also like to see protests against his absolute disgusting disregard for the plant, environment, nature, green issues, climate change etc.
'Being rich Don, isn't just about having lots of cash'. one can be rich in love, life, family' but what would he know about that?
his backers are the clever ones.
You're not kidding....... fancy coming up with a plan in which people who disagree with Trump stage protests which will allow him to declare martial law!
All those protesters are going to feel so stupid. And they will wish they stayed at home!
Who is spreading this conspiracy theory btw?

Fair play to the people of New York. Nice to see it's not just the Ghostbusters that gets people on the street.
Good one this week - plenty of material to work with...

TBH I think the current conspiracy is that the Billionaires on the left are funding the protests.(according to X) and Retweeted by Elon.
Don’t forget Martial law was discussed in the White House during the last episode of Season 1 so it could make a return this season as the current cast are picked for their loyalty to Trump.
Quietly undoing the economic stupidity of Brexit would be a good place to start, as that now looks like completely indefensible and self-defeating folly in the light of last weeks economic vandalism
Will of the people. Can never be undone. Can never be revisited. Can never be mentioned if you're Keir Starmer and you're afraid of losing a certain demographic from your vote.

I believe Ghostbusters have been broken up by DOGE.
Just came across this... collapse in Canadians summer bookings in the USA... I think it should be bourne in mind how close the USA is to Canada, so it's an/the obvious holiday destination for Canadain tourists... not any more by the looks of it...
I wonder what European tourist bookings to the USA look like 😮

It is, at this stage, just a conspiracy theory and will likely turn to nothing. But then I didn't seriously expect the Jan 6th riot and the calls to lynch the Vice President, so I'm not going to outright dismiss it in a sanctimonious manner.

Saw a spoof piece on YouTube where they reckoned so many Canadians winter in Florida they could just annexe Florida as the next Canadian province, see how Trump likes it.

I think that you might not have fully understood the conspiracy theory being discussed. This latest conspiracy theory is that the anti-Trump protests yesterday were part of a plan by Trump (or his backers, take your pick). Quote :
There's a theory that the protests are part of the plan, the end goal being imposing martial law.
So according to this theory Trump (or his backers) organised these anti-Trump protests yesterday so that he can impose martial law.
I love conspiracy theories and the more batshit crazy they are the better imo. The suggestion that all those anti-Trump protesters yesterday were demonstrating as part of a plan hatched by Trump (or his supporters) is certainly a great one!
I don't doubt that Trump would love to impose martial btw. It is just the idea that he is able to organise protests against himself that I remain a tad sceptical about.
It is just the idea that he is able to organise protests against himself that I remain a tad sceptical about.
He doesn't need to organise them himself. That's not part of the conspiracy theory, and wasn't suggested in the comment you quoted. He just has to let them happen. As people get more frustrated, the protests get bigger. The more people who attend them, the more frustrated people get, or if there's a separate incident to trigger more unrest like a BLM moment or a Charlottesville protest, then some hot headed idiot(s) are more likely to break the law, there's a riot, the government cracks down or declares it a crisis.
Yes, yes, it's very unlikely in the US. It seemed unlikely in Russia at the start of this century. Or in Turkey. Or in Hungary. Never say never.
and wasn't suggested in the comment you quoted.
It is exactly what was suggested in the comment that I quoted, ie "the protests are part of the plan"
Would Donald Trump exploit civil disorder to instigate a repressive clampdown? Absolutely he would!
Were the protests yesterday part of "a plan" which could result in martial law being declared? Absolutely they were not.
The protests which took place across the USA yesterday were because a lot of Americans are very opposed to Trump and his policies, they had nothing to do with any plan to declare martial law.
Otherwise what do you suggest......no more open opposition to Trump and his policies because it is part of a cunning plan by Trump and his supporters to declare martial law? That would be the logical conclusion, which would be very convenient for Trump.
And which is why I asked who is spreading this conspiracy theory which works in Trump's favour. Yes I am suggesting a conspiracy to spread a false conspiracy theory! 🙂
Anyway how much civil disorder was there yesterday and how much closer to martial law is the United States as a result? I haven't been following that closely.
Maybe "the plan" is felt to be a bit vaguer, more along the lines of them destroying institutions as fast and fully as they can but holding the option of declaring some kind of state of emergency if the populace kicks off in "unacceptable" numbers ??
Civil War? Breakup of the union?
Trump and his team of like minded idiots have demonstrated their clueless idiocracy pretty much every day since taking office. If it's not crashing their economy, alienating close allies, forgetting national security, or even just Trump demonstrating he ain't no contemporary Isaac Neutron.
There will be many films on this period of history, and inevitably one will have to be a comedy mindful of just how stupid Trump and co are.
Who do you think gets the main characters?
I think Mike Myers has already laid claim to playing Elon Musk, and I think Will Ferrell will be a perfect Donald Trump, and Rebel Wilson as Caroline Leavitt .. anymore ideas?
Would Donald Trump exploit civil disorder to instigate a repressive clampdown? Absolutely he would!
Were the protests yesterday part of "a plan" which could result in martial law being declared? Absolutely they were not.
Which is what I said.
Anyway how much civil disorder was there yesterday and how much closer to martial law is the United States as a result?
I don't know, you seem to have decided you're the ****ing expert, you tell us.
I suppose it depends what they accept as civil disorder in the court,
US Attorney General Pam Bondi said on Thursday that three defendants accused of vandalism targeting Elon Musk's Tesla electric vehicle company could face up to 20 years in prison.
Bondi said the damage to Tesla cars, dealerships and charging stations was "domestic terrorism".
Arrests and charges against the three suspects were previously announced by prosecutors.
I’d be watching this to see the outcome and what sticks.
As it may be an indication of how much the bits have been shuffled into place that will let Trump get his way.
