Not as the law stands, you get 2 terms max regardless of whether or not they're concurrent.

However, once he's stuffed SCOTUS with 2 or 3 more of his cronies, who knows what he'll be able to get away with.

Under the current laws it would be only 4 years... but laws can be changed

The 2 term rule doesn't stop this circus again in 4 years if he looses again.

Hopefully he'll have kicked the bucket by then of course.

Oh he will wreak absolute havoc if he gets in. And with the most dangerous far-right billionaire on the planet bankrolling him (and effectively running a Trump propoganda machine that half the world was already signed up to before it became such a thing) as well, that just doesn't bear thinking about.

Stand by for the abolition of union / worker rights, women's rights...

That law is the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. It can be changed, but it's extremely difficult to amend the constitution. You either need a 2/3 majority in both houses of Congress or 2/3 of the state legislatures to support an amendment. There's zero chance of getting it through Congress so you would need MAGA majorities in the legislatures of 34 states to get it ratified. Very unlikely.

Trump will immediately state that Ukraine is a European problem and pass the financial burden onto the EU/UK etc.

And in doing so will very likely cost jobs at the US arms manufacturers who produce the weapons being supplied to Ukraine, whilst blaming anyone but himself

And what does the rest of the world do if they don’t, and a Trump appointed Supreme Court gives him the presidency on some made up technicality?

Is pretty much what happened for Bush Vs Gore with the Florida vote.  The court stepped in and stopped the counts IIRC.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world doesn't have that choice - the US is a G7 member, NATO, World Bank, United Nations, and what must be dozens, if not hundreds of other organisations.

Including minor ones like nuclear non-proliferation which is kind of helpful in dealing with Iran, North Korea and Trump's mate Putin who must be hoping and praying that the orange monkey gets in.

A second Trump presidency is likely to both reduce US influence globally and reduce wider Western dependency on the United States. It happened to a degree during the first Trump presidency.

It's one of life's cruel ironies that an unhealthy tub of lard like tump can live until he's 90 whilst someone like sir chris gets struck down with terminal illness in middle age.

Ordinarily I'd be surprised if someone like trump makes it till the next election, but given he'll probably have a team of doctors following his every step with a defibrillator I fear he may be around for some time yet..

I've been a bit puzzled for a while at the Republican opposition to supplying military aid to Ukraine as it seems to be mainly on the grounds of cost to the US taxpayers. Many of them seem to think the Biden administration is simply giving billions of dollars to the Ukrainian government to spend on whatever they want,  in reality it's being spent at American arms manufacturers and supporting skilled well paid jobs across the country

Exactly.. Arms manufacture is huge business in America... This conflict is almost a gift to them... They can hugely boost that industry and weaken Russia at the same time, and Ukraine will be racking up huge debts with them without the US getting directly involved.

You'd think they would see that as a win/win/win situation

The contractual nature of lend-lease is that they only pay for what is 'used', So if a tank get's blown up (or a shell fired), it's free.

It's why there are occasional stories about intact WW2 fighters being dug up in fields, the USSR couldn't afford to buy them after the war, and the western allies that supplied them didn't want he hardware back (they wanted the money) so the Soviets just made them disappear.

Yup, it's where the GOP got a first, exhilarating taste of playing dirty and using their media outriders (Primarily Fox) to force through their narrative.

So much of what we're seeing now could trace it's origins back to either the Florida recount and Nixon's Southern Strategy.

Sorry, I made a typo that reverses the meaning. See bold for the correction.

They only pay for whatever is remaining / stockpiled at the end of the war.

Because whilst the poor have never had it so good, they’re still really bloody poor and are becoming more so every year.  As such, they’re desperate for something, anything that might offer some hope for changing that.  They’ve seen politicians of all parties and all persuasions come and go and nothing has changed.  They then see someone radically different who’s offering something they want (even if there’s a lot they don’t) and they respond to that.  Trump is pushing a lot of those single issue buttons and groups are responding as he’s the only one pushing that button.  The exact same was true for Brexit, is true for Farage and Le Pen.

Which is a positive sign

But quite frankly who knows, certainly Florida turnout by party registration seems very good for Trump so far and despite some positive signs there Dems have a mountain to climb in Nevada

On the opposite side, if Trump wins, the Gaza movement need to have a good hard look at themselves not voting for Harris. I’d be willing to bet the seeds for that were sown by R media and SM bots.

Ive tried and tried but I can't get my head around how they arrived at that logic either, that a vote for Trump as a protest vote is good for the people if Gaza.

And I have tried to figure out why some people are convinced that a Trump presidency would be significantly worse for Gaza. What might Trump do with regards to Gaza that would any worse than what the Biden/Harris administration have done?

Netanyahu is doing whatever he damn well wants, why would Trump becoming president make any difference? I am really struggling to see how the situation in Gaza could possibly be any worse than it currently is.

Does anyone really believe that the far-right regime in Tel Aviv has been showing restraint because there is a Democrat President in the White House? What sort of monster do people think Israelis are that we haven't seen the worst of it yet?

A whole lot of stuff. For example, tell Netanyahu that it would be fine to annex Gaza and deport all Gazans. Or just refuse to acknowledge that Gazans have any rights at all. Or impose a Muslim ban on entry into the U.S. and deport any Palestinians currently in the U.S., unleash the National Guard on any pro-Palestinian protests, and use the FBI to harass anyone who expresses a pro-Palestinian opinion on the grounds that they are an "enemy within." The list is endless. If Trump wins this, things will get much worse for Palestinians, anyone who imagines otherwise is fooling themselves. (And don't expect the Supreme Court to help, they've basically said that the President is beyond the law in carrying out Presidential duties.)

Theres more to that than meets the eye. The banning involves shutting down any telecoms,  media or platform used to access 'porn' but elsewhere in their plans are to define any discussion or support of LGBT and Trans issues as 'pornographic' making libraries, schools, clinics and so on as much the focus of the ban.

MAGA and Brexit are basically the same empty promises over deliverable content.

But that appeals to folk who think they have very little or not as much as they used to, because the promises always offer more than a rational view of the deliverable.

Jon Kaye our BBC correspondent out in Washington accidentally said earlier, "and back at the tramp rally", well it made me chuckle.

How has Trump, this disgusting criminal, lying toad managed this? His childish behaviour is cringe worthy.

As another British correspondent said - Trump a man involved in scandals and civil and criminal court cases.

Imo this oxygen thief has no graciousness or integrity, he blames everyone but himself for all his failings. This feels like the start of bad times.

Even for someone who looks like a toad his fawning toadying to Trump is embarrassing for all involved. I know geography clearly isn’t his strong point, but I wonder when someone’s going to inform him that his constituency of Clacton is actually this side of the Atlantic?

I thought his real constituency was about 1500 miles to the east of Clacton.

Imo this oxygen thief has no graciousness or integrity, he blames everyone but himself for all his failings.

Which is pretty much his appeal to his voter base of losers. Losers who imagine they are hard done to - despite having a higher standard of living than many 'winners' in the third world.
