the first assassination attempt was just cheap amateur dramatics.
That's what THEY want you to think
Edit - realised why.

BBC News – Trump loses Electric Avenue song legal fight
Trump is 'all in' on this election - if he wins he'll have laws changed to wriggle out of his raft of legal problems, or at least the vast majority of them to make it a net personal gain for him, if he loses, he's a busted flush and could quite well end up in an orange suit, or more likely just financially ruined and he'll sulk off into the either....
I put a £20 bet on Harris before all this kicked off, and stand to get a £55 return... current odds are still very close, but are slowly starting to favour Harris as the next prez...
...I'm feeling quietly confident

I don't know how true it is, but it's all over Reddit that this latest 'incident' , the 'would be shooter' voted for Trump in 2016.
That said, reading between the lines, I think this may be less about political affilitation, and more about crazy people with guns...
...It's not like crazy people with guns are a marginal demographic in the USA, never mind in Florida.
Yet 'they' still won't change the gun laws.
Darn it, if only that place had been filled with civilians with guns of their own, they all could have been shootin' and stuff and then that there shooter wouldn't have ever got anywhere.
Apparently he was a member of the Bush family
deserved more recognition, I thought
It's a weird paradox for the republicans though. They still seem all in favour of letting every loony have a gun, they're quite happy to peddle every conspiracy theory going, quite happy to have all the weirdos as their Potus and Veep candidates...And every chance that one of the folks they're encouraging will come and shoot them.
3rd time's the charm they say.
Given I know Poles that would run home to fight “itching” is not a term I would use. Ever.
Yes that was a very poor choice of words by the poster. I suspect they just meant to say that Poland may be confident of their chances if it was to come to that. There's no way they've spent 2 years watching Putin send long range missiles to destroy hospitals, schools, supermarkets and residential buildings and now fancy a bit of that for their own children.
That said, reading between the lines, I think this may be less about political affilitation, and more about crazy people with guns…
The first one seems to be a classic school shooter who deviated by deciding to try and kill a celebrity instead with Trump being chosen because he happened to be nearby (by US standards).
This one seems more politically motivated though with a bit of nuttery thrown in.
That’s what THEY want you to think
But, but...who are THEY? And are THEY the reason still, to his very moment, I have no idea what people mean when they talk about the 'trails behind Nationwide'??? <insert worried emoji cos THEY (????) won't let us have any proper ones to use>
if he loses, he’s a busted flush and could quite well end up in an orange suit
On the plus side, it'll match his skin.
And are THEY the reason still, to his very moment, I have no idea what people mean when they talk about the ‘trails behind Nationwide’??? <insert worried emoji cos THEY (????) won’t let us have any proper ones to use>
Those of us in the know got to read an excellent article about the trails behind Nationwide in a well known underground magazine a couple of months ago...

Yup, his social media's been pretty extensively screencapped and circulated, there's a lot of corroborating "I voted for you and you have let me down" stuff, and a theme of being radicalised by Russia/Ukraine. They're making a lot of his conversion to the democrats but he was pushed there by Trump.
What i find amazing is that there are literally tens of millions of gun owners in the UK, yet none of them appear to be able to hit a target.
I'd rather he lives to lose the election and end up in jail tbh..
Quite a few in the US too…
?
147000 firearms certificates as of March 2023, and just over half a million shotgun certificates in the UK.
Obvious typo is obvious.
He seems quite the target. A couple of votes the wrong way in Pennsylvania , another slightly more accurate nutter with a gun and it will be President Vance. Now there’s a thought…

With the first one, it’s only the fact that Diaper Don turned his head saved him from having the back of his skull blown off!
As for Vance, if circumstances meant he became the Repugnicants candidate for President, even the real committed GOP members seem to be willing to vote against him - Donny has something that seems to appeal to the average GOP voter, Vance just doesn’t, he can’t open his mouth without sticking his foot in it, he seems to have had a character bypass operation.
C4 has a programme on now about the last election. FFS Trump and his lot are/were still off their heads.
Trumps Heist !
Damn, I posted that earlier in the thread and then forgot to watch it
Republicans' new talking point (moving on quickly from eating cats) is that the democrats should stop telling people completely true things about Trump because it's likely to cause people to want to kill him.
(also, brilliantly, that they should "stick to policy", much like their leader who is sticking to important policy announcements like, uh, "I hate Taylor Swift". And also "stick to the facts" which I just can't even...
Republican senators defeated a Dem Party bill that would make fertility treatment more accessible through insurance and protect rights.
Donald supported the policy. I'm guessing that he's seen the way the wind might blow with the family vote, but was let down by his party
I'm embarrassed to say that I can't quite connect the dots on this one. Help anyone?

Trump: I don't think I've ever said this before. So we do these rallies. They're massive rallies. Everybody loves, everybody stays till the end. By the way, you know, when she said that, well, your rallies people leave. Honestly, nobody does. And if I saw them leaving, I'd say, and ladies and gentlemen make America great again and I'd get the hell out, ok? Because I don't want people leaving. But I do have to say so I give these long sometimes very complex sentences and paragraphs but they all come together. I do it a lot. I do it with raising cane. That story. I do it with the story on the catapults on the aircraft carriers. I do it with a lot of different stories. When I mentioned Doctor Hannibal Lecter. I'm using that as an example of people that are coming in from Silence of the Lambs. I use it. They say it's terrible. So they say so I'll give this long complex area for instance that I talked about a lot of different territory… You know, for a town hall, there's a lot of people but the fake news likes to say, the fake news likes to say, oh, he was rambling. No, no, that's not rambling. That's genius. When you can connect the dots. Now, now, Sarah, if you couldn't connect the dots, you got a problem. But every dot was connected and many stories were told in that little paragraph

Sometimes I just say things to get from one sentence to the next, you know how it is.
I’m embarrassed to say that I can’t quite connect the dots on this one. Help anyone?
there was an interesting point I heard recently which was the press are (naively) guilty of sane-ifying Trump when they report his announcements by summarising and paraphrasing him in print. I suppose they’re doing that out of politeness to their readers - because who wants to read a paragraph of that - but the reality is people need to read what he says , not having it conveyed to them what he supposedly means.
just quoting Trump as Harris is doing there really reveals more about him than actually listening to his drivel
I've watched both episodes of The Trump Heist. 3 things strike me...
- I find it really odd/disturbing to see "normal" people walking round with assault rifles
- I don't see how the US can ever have a normal election again, given how easily people are taken in by utterly garbage conspiracy theories
- do they really accept that the "greatest country on earth" is such a banana republic that its election can be so grossly manipulated
Just watched the first episode of Trump Heist.
Jesus ****ing Christ, it was insane. And terrifying. God knows what will happen this time around.
I find it really odd/disturbing to see “normal” people walking round with assault rifles
As i understand it(and could be wrong) but arent assault rifles capable of being fully automatic, and these are facsimiles are made to look like one, because the type of owner of such weapons has a fragile ego.
Heard a suggestion somewhere(might have been here) but the best way to get the AR-15 banned or discontinued is to make it the No1 gun for African Americans to own.
Episode 2 of 2 of Trump Heist on now - madness. C4. What a madman.
As i understand it(and could be wrong) but arent assault rifles capable of being fully automatic
In the American context, no. Broadly, fully automatic weapons were banned in 1986, so a normal civilian Ar15 / AK47 / AK74 will be semi auto i.e. self loading, one bullet per trigger pull
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_Owners_Protection_Act
There are exceptions for military, police, gun manufacturers and dealers for samples for sale to police or military. Existing full auto (aka machine) guns were grandfathered in and are still transferrable to a new owner if you fill in the right forms and pay the tax stamp.
The dealer exemption has been abused most famously by Larry Vickers who had a large personal collection of "samples". Probably a mistake to then make lots of very popular YouTube videos with said samples!
And whilst semi auto weapons can be converted to full auto, they have to be designed to make it very hard to do - so not just block off the switch position for full auto. Generally they'll have a different fire control group (trigger and gubbins) that can't be swapped or easily modified to make it full auto. A full auto trigger group is considered to be a machine gun in itself with big penalties for manufacture or possession.
Although recently very simple devices for Glock pistols have appeared that make them full auto and presumably uncontrollable.
Enjoying episode 2 - William Barr doesn't pull any punches does he?
Probably plenty of bump stocks knocking around they can put on their semi AR15s
In the American context
There's also the 'bump stock' technicality...
Basicaly a spring loaded rifle butt/brace that takes a lot of the recoil out of a shot from a high power rifle, that allows for faster re-aimimg between shots.
I think they are techincally illegal now, but there's nothing to stop anyone buying a 'legal' assault rifle, taking the stock off and fitting an after market bump stock.
Enjoying episode 2 – William Barr doesn’t pull any punches does he?
Its a shame he struggled to find that backbone 4 years ago

The NRA supports gun control when, well, racism.

Kinda, but it's integrated into the grip so when it springs forwards the trigger hits the users finger.

It was actually Trump that banned bump stocks after the shootings from the hotel in Las Vegas. The Supreme Court recently overturned the ban and they're legal to buy once again

Would be interesting to see how his attitude to gun legislation might change if he gets in again. Selfishness and vanity are at the core of his decision making. Given that A: he's had guns trained on him twice now, and B: With a criminal conviction (that he can't pardon himself for) he's now disqualified from owning a gun himself.... will he tighten gun ownership laws - 'If I can't have them nobody can' - or loosen them so that criminals like him are able to own them? 🙂
Just watched the first episode of Trump Heist.
Jesus **** Christ, it was insane. And terrifying. God knows what will happen this time around.
I watched it last night and was amazed at the level to which Republican politicians were prepared to completely debase themselves in the service of Trump, with utter bullshit and lies. Also the levels of violence and intimidation they were prepared to use to subvert democracy
Christ only knows what they’ve got lined up for this time
I think people around Trump will definitely have a plan to try and contest the vote if he loses
but Trump himself is looking old & tired compared to 2020 even, if he lost this time I dont think he'd be as desperate to get the job, especially now he has that immunity decision from the Supreme Court

He will want the job, if for no other reason than it will enable/help him to get revenge on people he feels have wronged him over the last 4 years
He will want the job, if for no other reason than it will enable/help him to get revenge on people he feels have wronged him over the last 4 years.(and keep on wringing money out of everything he can while in power).
As said above, it is ( or maybe not) always amazing how he gets away with the stunts he pulls, but then his enablers/support crew* around him are just 'the next rung down' on the super grifter ladder,so will make a big effort to keep the gravy train rolling.
*pond scum
I'm currently reading "Siege: Trump under fire" and one thing that jumps out is that Trump and his family are not conventionally clever (to say the least), but he is very good at getting what he wants.
I think people around Trump will definitely have a plan to try and contest the vote if he loses
The plan is already in motion....Network of Georgia election officials strategizing to undermine 2024 result
Or this Trump’s plan to steal election is taking shape
I am due to arrive in phoenix Arizona on November 5th for about a week.Arizona is a swing state so do you think it will be fun or scary. I thought I might do as it happens reporting live for stw news.
Arizona is a swing state
Which roughly translates as every other person you meet feels Donald Trump is capable and competent of being their leader. Rather you than me.
Utah would be funner. Undoubtedly the wackiest state I've been to. Flying into salt lake was a definite how can this nation function moment.

You'll be fine. The cities are less wild than rural areas. There are a good number of Dems in Phoenix. You'll probably see a few trucks with Trump flags on them. But not as many as in previous elections. Apocraphally.

They've got gins...
So be careful who you agitate....
I like gins, don't like guns though.
No one wants stricter gin control!
The Vodka marketing board beg to differ
Just watching the second part of the channel 4 doc. Guiliani really is a piece of work, isn’t he?
Trump really is an absolute lunatic! He’s terrifying in what he’s prepared to do to further fuel his own enormous ego. He wouldn’t give a flying **** if countless people died as long as he won power. As for the charlatans who knew full well this was all bollocks, but just went along and continue to go along with him? What a bunch of spineless self-serving shithouses!
its difficult not to fear the worst about what’s going to happen in November
North Carolina is running very close in the polls and has 16 electoral college seats, so Trump pretty much has to win it to have much hope. Republican candidate for governor has been outed as having posted some very weird shit on pornography websites, including admiring Hitler, an apparent desire to join the KKK, and being into tranny porn, all of which is a bit hard to explain for a black politician who is running as a conservative Christian who opposes trans rights. Hopefully it drags Trump down too and costs him the state.
No one wants stricter gin control!
I do! Drunk a full bottle of the shite in my early twenties and now I think it should be a banned substance.
I really do feel sorry for the normal people in the US. When you sit back and take a long hard look at the situation, you just end up at how? How is that man running for office, let alone POTUS? How did it even happen the first time? How can anyone listen to any of his speeches (and I use that term very loosely) and come away from the experience anything but utterly bewildered?
Shits ****ed up
Because for years now Fox news has been telling them hourly that if the Democrats get in, they will be doomed to live in a hellscape where their teen daughters will have to share a bathroom with men, babies will be killed, brown people will live in their town, they will be forced to use them/they pronouns, people who don't deserve it will get affordable health care and other such living horrors.
It was telling in that Channel 4 documentary that all the clips of crazy stuff was from Fox News. I'm not sure whether a more balanced view of the wider media output would have been a better idea or not.
You have to question the motives of the grifters who rode the coat tails of his presidency, even if for wider GOP reasons, but there was a clear break between those who sucked up with the Stop the Steal bollocks and those who took the "he lost, get over it" route and were horrified by what happened next.
I do! Drunk a full bottle of the shite in my early twenties and now I think it should be a banned substance.
Similar formative experience here but with an over indulgence in puddings at a young age which is why I’m passionate about banning Assault Trifles

I do, often. My family says things like, "Trump is good for farmers," while ignoring the fact that his trade war with China nearly killed soybean exports when he was in office. The farm in question? A soybean farm. They can't fact-check a single thing. Even when the Cheeto nearly destroyed their livelihood, they still think he's a great businessman.
I see his social media company shares are tumbling and thatll be leaving the chumps that bought into it, out of pocket
Race is still incredibly tight, polling is still 50/50 in those swing states
He does seem to be low energy these days, even saying he wont run in 2028
How does it work there?
Can you serve more than 2 terms if they are not consecutive?
No, just two terms however you do it.
I haven’t dipped into the election lately but I did read the article about not going in 2028. It kind of gave off a whiff of vulnerability, the acknowledgement however slight that he might not win this year.
A lot of the election campaign is just about motivating people to get out and vote, he is probably trying to get his base worried that this is their last chance to get him in office so they have to do it now.
Can you serve more than 2 terms if they are not consecutive?
I read on the BBC that it's 2 terms max, so you can't go away then come back.

It is crazy, the truth just does not seem to matter to huge numbers of voters.
The "deplorables" aren't big enough on their own to give him a majority, however without them the Republicans have no practical way of assembling an election coalition of voters.
The main thing that they care about is immigration.
Fox and the Murdochs despise him, as do most of the people who've worked for him, but they love the money that he brings them. However the fascination that he holds is starting to wear thin, even with Fox news watchers.
No, just two terms however you do it.
Technically no, you can serve as VP and if the pres steps down the remaining term doesn't count.
I’m passionate about banning Assault Trifles
But there’s hundreds and thousands of them!
Technically no, you can serve as VP and if the pres steps down the remaining term doesn’t count.
Only if it's less than two years. The president can't step down just after inauguration and then the VP gets to serve three full terms. However, it says "elected," so there may be a loophole whereby a two-term president could be appointed as the speaker of the house and then both the president and VP resign, in which case the speaker of the house is next in line to the throne.
