Tom_W1987 - MemberAs others have pointed out, the electoral college system weighted the votes towards the uneducated/thick. Either they need to go down the route of the popular vote, or they need to weight the system so that those over the average IQ have higher voting weight. Otherwise you will get governments that will direct the country on a course that uneducated idiots think that it should be set on.
Surely those who have devised the system are not those from uneducated or the unintelligent ones because they cannot even "read" or "write" let alone establish good logic but ...
The question begs ... how the hell do those people who, with their highly educated background & in charged of the system, managed to devise a system so badly done that they loss their own game?
Isn't it a case of dumb and dumber? I mean who would devise a system to disadvantage themselves? 😆
No. Let's move on.Jamie - Member
Who knows but I ain't shaking his hands coz I don't know what he has grabbed previously ...
We still talking about Bercow?
I've just read the link maxtorque posted a day or two ago "Against Normalization", it's quite good and Trump/Hitler comparisons - attacking the media, repeating complete lies, etc, is fairly convincing.

Summarise the main points please as I think there is really nothing new to be honest.

Nice summary

Because the system was devised a few hundred years ago, when people had a tendency to defer to their betters. Also, twitter and Breibart didn't exist.

Classic. 😆
BBC4 has been repeating 'Nazis- A Warning from History', with no doubt a wry smile on the face of the scheduler.
Think carefully ... time has no bearing on intelligence. It is really a case of dumb and dumber. 😆Tom_W1987 - Member

C'mon I really need some sort of summary because it is a very long article, when I asked Ernie to summarise I really meant that as I need a summary to compare with my assumptions. 😀captainsasquatch - Member

Over there we have a funny way of seeing the world as we usually get brown beaten by the political system ... 😛

😆
But on a more serious note, it has everything to do with the way thick or uneducated people have been politically enabled by the internet.
So where's trumps militarism going to take us. Pretty clear he's in cahoots with lockheed and the like, aye we'll reduce our prices and ramp up production no bother. kerrching...
Problem is these weapons need to get used to justify the cycle.
we usually get brown beaten by the political system ...
Ah the institutional racism at the heart of the political system? 😆
Lockheed never slashed F-35 prices due to Trump, don't credit him with that victory - please. The price drops that we have witnessed, were projected years ago. Trump is more likely to balls up what is actually a pretty good aircraft, despite typical teething issues - cheaper than a Tiffie per aircraft now I believe.
It's no just planes if you listen to the rhetoric. More interested in the long term strategy of increased spending. It's a couple of things, a straight up rob of tax payers, and some poor bastards are getting it.
Yes, he wants to go on a military spending rampage - and I highly suspect he will go on an actual military rampage through the South Pacific for the lolz. From what I've heard, the USMC etc brass are also itching for a fight because they're bored by the post Iraq/Afghanistan wind down - it's just that I think they'll regret it when Trump has them re-enacting Guadalcanal.
I'm completely convinced that the next few years are going to wind up with us living through some borderline apocalyptic stupidity.
I don't buy the Hitler comparisons, I reckon he's a straight up cold war era leader, largely in it for their own gains. Can see him more funding proxy wars than being overtly militaristic. Obviously against China. I reckon his core philosophy is commies and cash. (Along with personal aggrandisement, obviously)
I don't think he cares for ideology, I think he's a xenophobe. Every country is a competitor to be ****ed over and the best possible deal extracted, in Trumps world.
I don't think a man, who has asked why he can't use nuclear weapons, is the type of man to carry on the deniable wars of his predecessors. He wants a proper war, like Korea or Vietnam - napalm and all - theatrics on a grand and brutal scale. He's the kind of man you'd least want as your CO, who would have sparked mutinies amongst his men if a sailor or the kind that got everyone killed by asking his men to charge guns on horseback - whilst standing from afar.
I think he's a xenophobe.
Seems to like Russia though, loves the UK/Scotland, and 2/3 wives have been foreign, not very xenophobic is it?

He doesn't seem to be overly bothered about NAFTA arrangements with Canada, nor about doing deals with the UK - so clearly not every country, is it?

You mean like the type of imbecile who wants to see the EU projecting hard military power, arm itself with nuclear weapons under sole military control without democratic accountability, block the Gibraltar straits and who thinks that a Pacific war in which lots of spams are killed would be a bonus?
You mean like the type of imbecile who wants to see the EU projecting hard military power, arm itself with nuclear weapons under sole military control without democratic accountability, block the Gibraltar channel and who thinks that a Pacific war in which lots of spams are killed would be a bonus?
My answer to that, is that you think the EU should cower to American imperialism. The lack of democratic accountability within the EU is a total and utter myth, and besides - a lack of democratic accountability doesn't mean much. Last time I checked, China's foreign policy was less aggressive and so was the EU's - cultural attitudes inform foreign policy as well as voting behaviour or total lack of it.
And yes, I do think it would be a bonus if Americans learnt some humility in foreign affairs - and they will learn that lesson at some point when India and China are the most dominant forces on the planet - that is, unless the United States successfully impedes their progress.
If Americans had wanted to spread western principles and encourage co-operation among western nations in the face of existential threat, they wouldn't have voted for a man who wants nothing more than to use those allies for cynical unilateral benefit.
learnt some humility in foreign affairs
On the bright side, maybe if there is a large war in the Pacific, loads of spams will get killed - which is always a bonus
Put it this way, I will care a lot less about the Americans getting killed than I will care about Chinese soldiers or Philippine, Taiwanese, Korean etc citizens that get caught in the crossfire.
Interesting... can you remember why the Americans are even in Korea I wonder?
Because Japan and South Korea are all on the list of the United States top ten trade partners - nothing more. They'd rather these countries were subservient than develop their own defensive capability, they'd have a hissyfit if Japan developed nuclear capability. Why? It's not 1945, Japan can be trusted with nuclear arms the same as the Americans can.
When Trump says he wants Europe and it's allies to spend more on defence, what it means is "spend more on what we approve of - buy american - whilst we dictate trade terms to you individually - don't form blocs because that makes us feel threatened".
who would have sparked mutinies amongst his men
Crosses fingers..
TBH I think I'd want to know Tom and ninfan were both a safe distance from any button.
The twitter rants are starting to get more embarresing now, he does know most of his followers are just waiting to see what drivel comes out next?

End result maybe but process he is there, it is straight from the same play book. There was some great analysis on it, create enimies, demonise, divide people etc. Start with the big lies, refuse to acknowledge they are lies. Once you convince poeople that it's the other lot refusing to tell you the truth you have won.
Difference these days is there are way more people watching and they are watching 24/7 so those little tantrums are now front and centre
Will he see 2018 in the White House?
Put money on it if that's what you think. Personally I think he'll be in the White House till Jan 2025

You can love things and still hate them or be afraid of them. He loves Scotland so long as it lies down and does what he wants it too. He likes women too.
FWIW whilst on Holiday in morroco had a chat with a bedouin tourguide , he was pretty westernised and not especially devout muslim (liked his hash) , though knew a lot of islamic history,
Anyway he was very aware of Trump and said a lot of people talking about him and his muslim ban, a lot are happy if he was going to take on ISIS, but worried about his support of Putin and Assad and especially Israel.
But interestingly Trump was saying and doing exactly the kind of stuff that the kind of 'bad leaders' they have all over the Arab World do, and that it meant america's power must be fading if theyve elected someone like him.

Whats going to turn around his approval ratings?

Yeah but he hates Mexicans, Muslims and the Germans along with anyone who stands up to him.

And his Daughter.
😆
Actually, I'd laugh if that wasn't so serious.
He loves Scotland so long as it lies down and does what he wants it to.
Well make an Englishman of him yet 😉

Except the one on the mouse
Tom's posts sound like a over excited teenager who reads too much Tom Clancy etc. Personally I still think it's #fakenews Russian trolling of the internet or the pub bore proping up the bar railing against everything including their own contradictions.
Sounds about right, the twitter feed does currently read worse than someone on a solo bender on a Saturday night trying to set the world right (just swap the papers names for ex's)

I consider myself to be a supporter of Philippine nationalism.
If you don't care to understand why, watch Heneral Luna in all of its low budget goodness and read about the Philippine-American war if you want to know why a lot of people can't stand the United States.

All those companies are based in California, so really that's just saying that the whole of California is against him. Which he probably already knew.
Maybe he will break up Google? After all, they did the same thing to AT&T back in the day. That would learn them!
The 97 are spread out a bit and not all in California (Microsoft is in Washington State) but in total the represent a massive amount of revenue for the US tresurary and carry a lot of financial weight (this was the group Trump was sucking up to post election) and most likely a source of jobs going forward. Any idea how he could break up google? They are already splitting with Alphabet being the operating head, they could split, move and seperate across the globe if they wanted to.
In this New World of politics, taking a stance against sexism, racism, equality before the law and supporting an independant judiciary are now partisan and not in accordance with the Tories.

Strange I can't see a quote from the Foreign Sec there
Donald Trump says his Muslim ban proposal is motivated in part out of fear that the US cities will become like Paris and London, where he says areas are completely radicalised."We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised that police are afraid for their own lives," he said in an interview with MSNBC.
Mr. Johnson, when he heard Mr. Trump's claims, was quick to deny them - and insult the fellow blonde-haired politician.
He said: "Donald Trump's ill-informed comments are complete and utter nonsense."As a city where more than 300 languages are spoken, London has a proud history of tolerance and diversity and to suggest there are areas where police officers cannot go because of radicalisation is simply ridiculous.
"I would welcome the opportunity to show Mr Trump first hand some of the excellent work our police officers do every day in local neighbourhoods throughout our city.
"Crime has been falling steadily in both London and New York - and the only reason I wouldn't go to some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump."
He has completely lost the plot now, releasing a list of terror attacks which apparently were not reported properly by western media. The list includes Paris and Berlin. And is full of spelling mistakes.
And no mention of Israel.
Hope they find the attakers though, I'll slep more safely at night when they do.
