Manufacturing was responsible for 32,000 of those new jobs.

What do any of these new jobs have to do with Trump?

...and yet when you visit these factories everyone is happy, smiling and enthusiastic.

Maybe they are told to smile and be happy when big white customer man visits to see the happy smiling workforce or they will be sacked. Just maybe. 🙄

I wish they'd do the same to the miserable ***** I work with in the UK.

You will note that this rise in emploment is the latest growth figure going back to the 2009 crash.

Yep, the US Unemployment Rate has actually been falling pretty steadily since 2010, from a high of 10% in Oct 2009 down to 4.8% when Obama left office in Jan 2017.

Of course Trump says:

"Don't believe these phony numbers. The number is probably 28, 29, as high as 35. In fact, I even heard recently 42 percent."
🙄

Oddly though he seems happy enough to believe the numbers when he can steal credit for them:

5 minutes ago you were saying manufacturing job growth was impossible because robots. Now you're saying it's already been done.

No, I was saying that TRUMP'S idea of fixing a manufacturing workforce problem by relocating robotics-based companies is nonsensical.

In fact, by focusing exclusively on this kind of employment, he shows again how narrow his understanding actually is. ninfan's own reference demonstrates that Trump is not only ineffectual, but in regard to employment levels, is simply wrong.

US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Scott Pruitt has said he "would not agree" carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming.
He told CNBC that measuring human impact on the climate was "very challenging" and there was "tremendous disagreement" about the issue.

I imagine the "tremendous disagreement" comes from carefully selected scientists, how long till the moderate republicans take a stand against the direction their party is heading?

I bet the moderate Republicans are loving Trump, though, as he is making them look positively enlightened by comparison; preparing the way for when "genuine, good-hearted" Republicans fly in and save the day from the nasty Trump.

Aaargh, i thought Pruitt had backed down from being such a vehement denier - it seems possible things might get even worse at the EPA than I was expecting.

What say the Trumpettes on here now? ISTR they defended Pruitts appointment at the time

So it seems that the exclusion of Iraq from the new travel ban might have been simply to make it "different" to the previous travel ban.

This is how the new ban differs from the previous one :

1. Iraq is removed from the list.

2. Existing visa holders will not be subjected to the ban.

3. Religious minorities are no longer given preferential treatment.

4. Syrian refugees are no longer singled out.

5. The rollout will occur in 10 days.

Here are 5 things different about Trump's new travel ban

What's the significance of the new different travel ban? Well it means that the judge's first ruling on the initial travel ban allegedly no longer applies.

"The justice department had argued that since the initial travel order ban had been revoked, the judge's first ruling could no longer apply. Those opposing that argument said the new travel ban had the same effect as the original."

Trump travel ban: Judge declines to reinstate ruling

Although it's already hit obstacles :

Donald Trump's new travel ban suffers first legal setback

.

And it seems that the United States tourism industry, which is worth $2.1 trillion, is suffering since the US chose an odious and obnoxious man to lead them :

The Trump Slump

“I don’t want to spend any of my euros in this version of United States. It’s not the one I’ve known for long time.”

Nobody seems to have picked up on the tourism bit but it's going to be a lot of jobs and money gone until trump goes. And for anyone saying it's nonsense I can say we were planning to go as a family and now will chose somewhere less dumbly ruled.

Something that I missed earlier was a few questions to Sean Spicer on the phone taps - Is it not a bad thing for Trump that he could have been investigated to the extent that they needed to wire tap Trump Tower? Mumble Fumble Mumble
the biggest issue for the Republicans is the Tax Credits they are available on the HC bill are basically cash in hand or subsidy (not a good word from Republicans) They are about to rate the cost and coverage of the bill this week so Spicer has been briefing against the group that does that (currently overseen by a Republican) for the moment it ends up costing more and covering less people.

In other news: Buzzfeed (yeah, I know...) say:

Even some Democrats on the Intelligence Committee now quietly admit, after several briefings and preliminary inquiries, they don’t expect to find evidence of active, informed collusion between the Trump campaign and known Russian intelligence operatives, though investigators have only just begun reviewing raw intelligence. Among the Intelligence Committee’s rank and file, there’s a tangible frustration over what one official called “wildly inflated” expectations surrounding the panel’s fledgling investigation.

Who was the aircraft designer who ended up in the Gulab because he once went to an airshow in Paris?!

Andrei Tuplolev.

But TBH, if you build, command, design or even read, you were sent to the Gulag.

Korolev (Father of Russian rocketry) was sent there too because he'd been using research funds for aircraft on rockets...how dare he - what future in rockets?!

I guess Stalin was the precursor to Gove/Farage/Trump - they too were done listening to experts, whilst harbouring feelings of insecurity wrapped up in a healthy blanket of xenophobia and racism and with a desire, above all else, to have POWER.

Assuming it wasn't even worth commenting on the chance of finding any shred of evidence that Obama tapped trumps wires...
Unfortunatly on the Russian side of things Sessions is on the shakey ground, and some background I heard over the weekend http://www.npr.org/2017/03/09/519415023/what-is-steve-bannon-and-jeff-sessions-shared-vision-for-remaking-america
It starts to show where some of the visions are coming from, losing Sessions would be a big blow given his role in some of the early policy direction and his closeness to Bannon.

Not being impeached in your first 50 days in office is hardly a major achievement but you big it up as much as you need.
she does not want to be seen sharing a platform with this [s]racist lying bigot[/s]person with these policies and these actions. She is too polite to say the real reason . Not exactly sherlock levels of deduction required but HTH.

Whent the best you can say is Donald Trump - Not impeached yet it's not looking good. 50 days in and less popular, less trusted and still not managed to fill a cabinet or the senior positions. As may people have spotted that will be coming to bite hime next as there are not many number 2's around when the boss is out of town.

So do we think it's good to know how the person steering the tax changes would benift from them?
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/14/us/politics/donald-trump-taxes.html?_r=0

Nothing in the two pages produced on Tuesday night suggested any ties with Russia. Nor did they provide much information about his businesses that was not previously known. But they showed that the vast bulk of the federal income taxes he paid in 2005, $31 million, was paid under the alternative minimum tax, which Mr. Trump wants to abolish.

That tax serves as a backstop to the ordinary income tax and is intended to prevent wealthy Americans from paying no income tax at all. Without it, Mr. Trump would have paid about $5 million in regular taxes, plus nearly $2 million in self-employment taxes, on $153 million in income in 2005.

“Trump’s return shows that he’s pushing tax changes that benefit multimillionaire heirs like him, not the middle class,” said Lily Batchelder, a tax law professor at New York University and former majority chief tax counsel for the Senate Finance Committee. “His proposal to repeal the A.M.T. would have slashed his own tax burden by $31 million, and his income tax rate would be lower than the average rate paid by families earning $75,000 to $100,000.”

Meanwhile in "It's Complicated" land (opposite side of the world to the moral high ground but strangly close to Corruption Swamp)
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/ivanka-trump-china-clothing-import-donald-father-buy-american-a7626471.html
Customs bills reportedly show Trump's daughter’s company had 53.5 of tonnes of Chinese goods steaming towards American ports during inauguration speech

Just goes to show buying American is an option for some...

Ah, so THAT'S what "jambafact" means.

According to jambalaya:

I wonder what the real reason is behind Merkel's cancelled visit. Seems a bit odd to blame it on the weather particularly as it hasn't turned out nearly as bad as forecast.

From The Independent:

Air travel was perhaps the hardest hit sector - nearly 6,000 flights were canceled all across the region with 3,300 of them in the New York area.

American Airlines cancelled all flights to and from John F. Kennedy, Laguardia, and Newark airports in the New York area.

Delta alone cancelled 800 flights in the northeast corridor between Philadelphia and Boston.

Television news reports showed nearly empty airports normally bustling with thousands of travelers.

Despite the early warnings of the storm and sub-optimal flying conditions, hundreds were stranded and the ripple effect has caused approximate 1,600 flight delays across the country, according to CNBC.

Sad. Terrible. Muchly big.

At least he was honest enough to admit not fully understanding the issue.

The leaked copy seemed to say 'client copy' on it. Surely he wouldn't have leaked it himself to distract from the FBI Russia news?

Neither of these option will illicit an increase in expressed understanding.

What Junkyard said really.

Well we know he did pay some tax, once many years ago.

He also registered a huge loss, which could simply be a vehicle for shifting funds he 'owes' to other 'companies' that he may or may not have an interest in to avoid much much more tax.

Without wider context the leak to me seems like him throwing a very transparent bone.

It's (the presidency) all starting to look like a juggling act on the verge of disaster. Someone in the front row is going to get a knife or chainsaw in their lap and it will turn messy.

Any other predictions you'd like to make while you have the chance? We could see how you do?

Geert Wilders isn't going to win the Dutch elections perhaps?
Le Pen going to lose the French one?

"I think they say "could of", pretty sure someone on here was quibbling about the use of "called for" or something like that so we now know headlines mean whatever we want."

Only in your head.

I'd quibble about "could of" because all the headlines correctly state "could have" 🙄

As expected a simple man with questionable mental health and no political experience isnt doing a good job at being president. Who would have thought it?
