I saw a headline on a forum earlier that said that "everyone who received a fine during lockdown could now ignore it" . . . .

Don't limit yourself. Caught riding cheeky even though there may be 'no cycling' signs up?

"Sorry, I decided I had to ride my bike to test my eyesight. You say it is no cycling here, but I haven't seen any signs to that effect. Maybe my eyesight is iffy after all. By the way, where am I?"

I'm very very tempted to go for a provocative daylight cheeky ride in my local NIMBY country park just so I can trot that line out if challenged by the NIMBY gammons who roam it.

Chewkw do you do stand up?

I’m surprised he can, from his posts it sounds like he’s had a stroke.

Maybe not the kind of 'stroke' you think. What with the dodgy eyesight and all eh Dom chewie?

So… had to leave London, against government guidance, because they thought they both had the virus and were worried about childcare if they both became more ill… but they didn’t go against isolation instructions when leaving London, because they didn’t “know” they had the virus? Is that the defence?

He had that prop scoot bike sticking out of his backpack this evening.

So Brexit means Brexit but Stay at home means drive 300 miles to see your folkes, and then another 30 for a nice day out at the castle. Right, got it.

Be fair. Dominic, as chief advisor to the government, realised that the meaning of 'stay at home' was confusing and had the government change the message to 'stay alert.' He also got Boris to issue a statement encouraging people to drive and visit beauty spots and to rely on the common sense of the British people.

All done after his visit to Barnard castle.

Mr Photographic memory retired teacher has it!

So, the second trip on 19 Apr - are we now accepting that was a mistake & didn’t happen? That seems to be the only inaccuracy if so. Well, apart from all Cummings lies anyway.

So… he tells us to read his blog where he warned about a Coronavirus out break… and assumed that people were too stupid to check to see if his warnings had been retrospectively added after the event…

[check the whole thread]

Anyway… had to leave London because they had the virus… wasn’t breaking the isolation instruction because they didn’t have the virus. Which is true?

And if leaving London was the “safe” thing to do, why the instruction for (all other) people not to travel?

Can anyone confirm whether Cums child it's autistic?

I'm seeing this come up a lot as a defence for his actions? A Google certainly didn't shed any light on the matter and I think it highly unlikely Cums would have not made a big deal of that fact if true.... Given the guy is now carrying kids toys to his car every day since this kicked off.

I’ve now heard “telling people to quarantine” being key to the next part of this response to the medical emergency several times on the BBC this evening. A lot of work to do there, if people aren’t going to just “use their instincts” and carry the virus around the country with them.

A partial transcript of Dom’s road trip below

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can, which in this case was Durham.

I think my favourite thing about this whole debacle is that the entire country now feels like the DUP or one of Boris' exes. Everyone knew he has an MO for screwing people over, but all the tories etc thought "yeah, but that was all those other stupid assholes, he wouldn't do that to ME - I'm too important!". Forgetting that everyone else in the past thought the same thing.

I wonder if this will work as a wake up call for the true blue before brexit happens and they (and us) are left with Boris' seed dripping down our legs while he wipes it off on the curtains and borrows a £20 note to go out and fetch breakfast from Greggs and never comes back, leaving the country holding his love-child. And when we we try to call him to tell him we missed our last two periods, realising he fake-numbered us so we can't even get the CSA to chase him up.

I have just emailed my MP Jacob Ree-Mogg (Cock).

I would urge anyone who has a Tory MP to do the same.

Emailed mine, Andrea Jenkyns. Her record shows that she seems actually quite concerned about measures put in place to protect people, so might get some action.

I think he might still ride this out. If both of them simply don't care about the backlash they will just continue as they are until people get bored of the subject. Unless something more drastic happens. Plenty of the right wing papers leading with the shops opening. Looking through the comments people are framing this as a Brexit revenge tactic as well which will put gammons in a quandry.

They don't care. They don't have to. They are sitting on an 80 seat majority for the next 4.5 years.

The thing that pisses me off most about all of this stuff (Brexit, Trump, etc) is that they have finally figured out that UK and US citizens, taken as an average, are too lazy and thick to care. Maybe it was something added to the water from the 60s onwards.

But they have figured out that enough of us have an attention span of roughly the number of hours from one episode of Eastenders to the next.

They despise normal people, look down on them. But can convince these people that they have their best interests at heart.

It really is quite awful.

**** Boris

**** Brexit

**** Cummings

This they are just waiting for this next thing to come along... oh wait, the shops are open again in 2 weeks? Whoop!

Where is Starmer in all this with a wide open goal and half the country expressing outrage at this unelected lemon? He must have some special secret strategy for completing doing them over with his laser silence. Maybe Sainsburys want more people in the shops and the landlords want people back to work.

I think the Tories will sit this out and it'll degrade politics further, encourage cynicism, deceit and pessimism and that's the Trumpian-type environment they feel most comfortable in.

He’s been tweeting and giving interviews? That’s as much as he can do, as parliament is in recess.

That was obvious from the start. Cummings will then still be there in 5 years time to get them elected again with more lies and catchy slogans. If for some reason he is sacked then I imagine Trump will snap him up for his campaign

Exactly. Maybe I should read the writing on the wall and start trying to ingratiate myself with them? I could be a 'rabid convert', even more extreme than those with single digit party numbers. There's still a chance for me.

Do I start by sharing 'nudge-nudge not quite openly racist' tweets?

If I work my way up quietly, I might get an important behind the scenes job. Maybe organising rail timetables for 'resettlement' schemes?

The depths we are sinking to are scary. Is it time to start thinking the unthinkable?

I’m disappointed to see that (with the exception of this thread) the media (and social media) seem to have gone quiet and forgotten about it already. That’s exactly what the Tories wanted us to do. I feel very disheartened 😕

Credit where it is due. Cummings and his ilk figured out before anyone else how little respect 'we' are actually due. They figured out how to manipulate an unquestioning and pliant herd.

The combination of utter disdain dressed up as concern over 'legitimate concerns of ordinary people around things such as immigration' is enough to push me close to actual vomiting.

I think Starmer has made some very clear points - I guess it depends from where you get your news? And anyway, PMQs next time around should be cracking.

For those who listen to it, or even know what it is.

It really was a master class in management by apparently reasonable pronouncement.

Hang on:

In the middle of a international emergency a key advisor goes AWOL and doesn't tell anyone. No one thinks to ask where he is. If that is true the government would appear to be totally asleep at the wheel. Maybe the government practices what it preaches on employees - they just don't care.

I'd have thought someone wired the way Mr Cummings brain is will remember what conversations were had.

Leaving home for to care for vulnerable people was explained in terms of when the vulnerable person doesn't live with you. Guidance at the time also seemed to be very clear on not going to second homes to self isolate / countryside to self isolate.

Going for a drive to see if you are fit enough to drive on a motorway involves driving 30miles on minor country roads and through small towns with the family. He was staying five or six miles from a motorway. A quick trip to Scotch Corner and back with the Mrs leaving the child with his sister / family might have been a sensible option. These being cited as the key reason for travelling to the farm for child care. He was clear of his quarantine period was over; not an infection risk and they could have left their house under the vulnerable individual care exception.

It looks to have been made up by the usual far-right brexit trolls

Im sure cummings is happy to let that bit of fake news fester though

I really hoped this wouldn't just go away, but it seems I'll be disappointed again.
Well played, I guess but, unless there's another bombshell to be exposed (oh, please...), we'll all have moved on in a week.
