How do you rate the media interviewing Cummings?

Rating the press out of 5 please.

1. Laura Kuenssberg knew exactly well there are nothing much to ask. (5/5) 👍

2. Robert Peston is struggling with digesting and twisting the details to ask "difficult" questions that sounds meaningful (3/5) ... 🤣

3. Obviously the second reporter is trying a different tactic by giving her own statement rather than asking meaningless questions and trying to link the questions to PM. 3rd grade press standard reporting and not even in the big league (2/5) 😂

4. Gary Gibbon is now using the interrupting tactic, Channel 4 tactics, to dislodge Cummings and by trying to put words in his mouth and by using the typical approach of "telling" the interviewees their views. This is an advance tactic (4/5). 😄

5. The next report ... no, no, no ... this reporter bloke is trying all the approaches trying to sound credible and by presenting his view/statement more than listening or interviewing. You are hitting above your pay grade as a reporter. Poor reporting. You might as well write your own story (1/5). 🙄

6. Ok now the next report ... starting with asking miles between the house. Using the word "stupid" and trying to pick details. Amateur at best in reporting. Journalism degree course has certainly gone down in standard. I blame inflated grade? Why ask the obvious question about "regret"? This should be a failed grade in reporting. (1/5)🙄

7. Nicola the next reporter - Medical advice questions. (they are gang-banging Cummings from all direction now). Asking "closed-ish" questions with no room for probing for more reasons. Shoot herself in her own foot and finally provided her own statement rather than interview then trying to pick the details. Another fail. (1/5) 🙄

8. Matt - started with saying Cummings was not honest ... this reported has started with an assumption and prejudged Cummings, then struggle with asking "closed" questions. Cummings has thrown him some bones to chew on to help him out. (0/5) I am embarrassed for his reporting skills. 😬

9. Kathleen next - Crikey, using a note pad (clue in note pad being amateurish) ... started with statement then followed up with closed question. Reporting standard is definitely poor. Cummings could easily just answered yes or no answer. Also borrowing other reporters question which only indicates lazy preparation. Then final parting question is about voters ... (0/5)😬

10. Open to the floor of reporters - waste of time as they are now repeating and just putting their words into his mouth. More statements than interview. A fail whoever the reporter is. (0/5) 🙄

11. Robert (same Robert) - now started to formulate his own statement and putting his own statement forward more than asking question. Now showing desperation and started to interrupt. 🤣(1/5 <- downgraded his score)

Crikey why gave the reporters chairs to sit on? Too comfortable.

Well done Cummings! He is good and very calm. Right person for Brexit advice. 👍 😀

Why has none of them asked, why wasnt it safe for your child in London.

Yes, he even appeared to backtrack during the press conference on how ill his wife was. If that's true, neither of them were incapacitated with Covid (or even showing proper symptons?) yet he had to flee London in a hurry because he had no other options.

Suggesting he had to hide out in Co. Durham because he was being threatened is another revealingly crap excuse. None of it really stood up, and the fact that some of the justifications were so obviously invented for the press conference won't help him.

270 miles there 60 miles day trip 270 miles back, he definitely stopped for fuel at some point, you can't get that kind of mileage out of a tank of fuel in a disco.

So he rushes home from work because his wife is showing Corona symptoms, spends a couple of hours with her and then returns to work? WTF. Everything he said after that was irrelevant.

I'm surprised he can, from his posts it sounds like he's had a stroke.

@bruneep my thoughts exactly! Master manipulator (or maybe not so much so given that performance)  playing the victim.

My thoughts

1. Lying bastard
2. Is that really the best so called 'top' reporters can come up with? Almost as pathetic as the excuses given.

Lol @ chewkw replies. Careful or he'll get out the machete and start lopping heads! You still in Newcastle chewy?

Ps. Watching Alastair Cambell now - hard to differentiate between him and Steve Davis nowadays 😉

I think it is true that this will not have changed anyone’s entrenched position. Won’t persuade the doubters because the core issues of personal judgement and trust have not really been addressed. Those who want to move away from this will think he did enough.

Chewk, what makes you think you won’t get given the full Windrush by your mates?
They hate you and want you gone.

Nahh ... do as they wish. If I go the entire British Isle will probably be half empty.

Collectively I thought they did OK. The questions that landed and his answers to those questions didn't do him any favours, and won't have mollified people who are rightly very angry at his behaviour. No sign of contrition, and despite saying he understands why the public were concerned, his responses demonstrated that he doesn't really understand at all.

I feel the best approach now is for the press to always refer to Prime Minister Dominic Cummings. In fact for everyone who has had enough of this fiasco to do the same. Only one thing will make Boris act and that is the public being constantly reminded that he his not in charge and is being told what to do by Dom.

Yes, still in the Labour stronghold.

I feel the best approach now is for the press to always refer to Prime Minister Dominic Cummings.

Nahh ... he has slightly more hairs than me and does not have the PM look.

Has anyone on Twitter asked Steve Baker to quantify exactly how much of Joris's 'political capital' has just been spent?

I reckon he's on the edge right now. Going full Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

😅🤣😅🤣

I am glad you are happy. 😀
Cummings' case is now closed.

Now can the press not have political news until the pandemic is over?

It was like one of those everyone writes the next line of the story games. Fitted the facts perfectly. Just odd given that it's exactly what he told Bojo yesterday, and yet Bojo seemed totally oblivious of any of them.

Cummings made a point of saying that he didn't know if his wife had covid which begs the question why he decided to self-isolate with his family, especially as BJ explicitly said that Cummings knew that he and his wife were about to become incapacitated with covid.

Really not sure about that.
He holds a lot of power and Johnson seems completely reliant on him.
On the flipside plenty of other tories loath him (with good reason since he is just using the party without a care for it) and even the daily mail seems to be settling down against him.
In any previous parliament and any other person I would agree but with the current complete lack of shame I reckon you may be wrong.

I shouldn’t find myself agreeing with this man, again:

Doffs cap at Mark Donne……. genius

The speed at which he sorted that is impressive.

No chance. None at all.

I dunno, he (DC) specifically said it was up to the PM if he should go, almost setting it up for him.

Was listening to Alastair Campbell on Sky News and he was absolutely scathing, but he raised a very pertinent point...

No. 10 are dedicating their time to this during a time of national/global crisis. Dominic Cummings said it himself, that the Prime Minister's time is incredibly important and should not be wasted with trivial stuff. And yet they've probably spent all day perfecting his script, going over the potential questions and answers to defend an adviser.

It's very obvious he hasn't got any friends in any camps and too many enemies have been made. The media won't stop till he's gone.

If he cannot handle the media then he is Not up to the job.
He is not in a position to be liked or want to be liked.
The country is not governed by the media.

Not a cat in hells chance. That means Johnson has to sack him, and given that Cummings tells Johnson what to do then that’s rather unlikely.
He’s here until herd immunity is achieved along side no deal Brexit.

He flat out denied that he had revisited Durham after returning to London. Interesting to see if anyone can stand up that allegation with more evidence now. Either the witness is mistaken or lying, or Cummings is lying.

Yup, the story just doesn't make any sense. And now different bits have been "true" at different times as was convenient, but they're hoping that there's so many lies that everyone just goes "well who really knows".

The "eye test" seems like a dead cat, to distract us from the massive pile of dead cats.

Having thought about the conference again, I think regarding the judgement issue he was implying that he was capable of making judgements based on the small print but others are too thick, so follow the broader stay at home message
