Anyone managing dog anxiety with long term medication like amitriptyline or fluoxetine (for the dog)?

We'd like to look into it but our usual vet has no experience with this and is hesitant to experiment on us.

Do you know the source of the anxiety, e.g. fireworks, or being left alone for hours?

Medication for anxiety (in any animal - human or canine) should be avoided at all costs IMHO.

I'm with Dafydd - treat the root cause not the symptoms.

Just my Tuppence :o)

One of our dogs is particularly nervous around the 3 weeks before Guy Fawkes night when sometimes it sounds like we are in a warzone.

Last year we started giving them DORWEST Scullcap and Valerian the improvement in the dogs is amazing they are both on there beds, aware of the bangs but are not freaking out as in previous years.
