[Closed] Does anyone on here socialise with other forum members ?

Have to say, I don't think I've met anyone from here I didn't like, and I've met quite a few.

Always a friendly, inclusive atmosphere on group rides and the seriously good riders are usually the most encouraging and helpful to those of us not blessed with the most skills.

Taking the mick out of people on here is also far more fun when you've met them in real life too.

I've met a fair few. A fair few have surprised me how bloody well that they can ride, hardly any have disappointed on this front. Surprisingly really as you'd think people on such a forum would fall into the 'lets talk about it/not be able to do it' category.

There are a fair few generous of spirit types on here.

[quote=codybrennan ]The only one I 'know' of is scotroutes, and we're linked via Google+ as I think he's really kewl
(I don't think he knows this. I will make this info known to him.)
It was the rough camping stuff he does that drew me in. Its something I intend to try and thought he'd be a good bloke to know, sounded like a decent guy, and we're not a million miles from each other geographically.
I'm aware of how "WLTM" that all sounds

Met a couple from flogging a few bits; nice bunch in the main. Let one guy take some RC36's on trust as may have been suitable for a mate and he'd run out of cash - only said £20 as they were a bit scrappy and his mate was short of funds too. Promised response/ payment never happened.

Lacoste jumper should have given it away really.

Met loads.

Some of the Edinburgh/Lothians crowd through here and mlehworld, then lots more through working at The Bike Chain.

More of the mlehworld crowd through various meats.

Even more through Fatbike rides and gatherings.

Plus a few other odds and sods encountered on various rides, either planned or by chance.

I'd say that, almost without exception, they were all well-balanced, nice-to-know folk - even TJ and GW.

I've met a few guys who I thought 99% chance of posting here, but I didn't want to be that guy who meets some new guys and goes:

"So, you guys post on STW?"

I was introduced to the forum by a few guys I rideout with, one in particular was an avid poster until he got bored. My whippet mate watches but refuses to post anything, my mates from UpNorf post and rideout and we meet a few times a year or so.
Then theres the SSUK crew who I met at Charlies infamous event, all who rode out impressed me, in the main for being rather normal and hard riding types, which I like.
There are a few groups close to me that rideout, the Lordswood/QECP/Fareham/Meon lot and I crash into them when I can.

As far as the rest on here, most I would be pleased to meet/rideout with, not on a dark night you understand, but in open countryside in daylight 😉

I'm on here because of real world friends, and I've made real world friends from on here.

(Also I have completely blanked people from on here that I should know, because I'm forgetful and pig ignorant, but I'd totally socialise with them if I was less shit.)

Not sure of the exact technology but you dial a number, someone answers you speak

IIRC you or a mate had an issue with Merlin and I went into speak about it - was it a light? Years ago old forum iirc

It either that or I dream about you 😉

I do.

One is a former colleague who I have know for 20 years. Another is someone I have know for about 8 years.

The rest are the bunch of randoms that I ride with on a Monday night.

All of them top blokes/ladies.

Does it count if the other member was banned, came back under a different username, then got banned again?

I'll echo some comments above and say I've never met anyone on here that hasn't turned out to be anything than jolly nice. Rusty Spanner even gave me a load of beer - I hope that sets a precedent for when I meet anyone else of here.

Yep loads of the single speedy nichewhores. Most of them are tattooed dunkard hooligans so we get on well.

Did these meats involve spinning?

I've met some on STW rides, all of whom have been really nice. I don't socialise much with anyone, work does my head in and at home I like my own company and to hang out with my dogs. I liked the STW rides but I mostly prefer to ride alone - I get more riding in that way, with less stopping for chats/repairs/punctures/late arrivals etc.

When I first joined the forum it was simply a matter of being in touch with people to know when the Northern Chapter rides were being organised from .I've met some good folk and riding buddies on here but there are loads I'll never meet .Syspect there are a few desk-jockeys passing boring days at work by engaging in mass-debate

I don't regularly socialise with anyone I've met through the forum, I've met and had a good laugh with a few who post on here at the kind of event you'd expect to do that at (eg SS nichewhore gatherings as per tazzy)

Wildest stab in the dark was going to Norway and spending 3 days very explicitly trusting my life with a guy I met through a US forum - backcountry touring, so avalanche rescue etc. A few trip reports from the both of us on there, so there was some e-scoping going on. Bit more of a flyer for him, because he was well known on there and obviously trusted by a number of guys who clearly knew their shit. Not so much for him to see about me.

Waves to MartynS.

I socialise with loads, even 'Big Hitters' and have even been on skiing holidays with a few.

Been riding with too many to mention though, not sure they know who I am or care.

speaking of which, did GeeTee1972 ever mange to hook up with Dave from Leith Hill?

I haven't met anyone off here...I just haven't been propositioned yet.

Perhaps I need to make my profile more explicit and upload pictures of my junk.

I tend not to ask people I meet if they're on stw 'cos they only ask what my username is and then I have to try explain how to pronounce it.

Strangely wwaswas I was on a ride with a few of the guys from here (met via t'interweb) and we had a discussion about the pronounciation of your name, I fought your corner!

Wanted to meet people 'round Bradders, but not happened yet due to Uni work overload, boo. Soon though [B.A.Nana, I'm thinking of you and your trail].

That came up when we were on holiday. I did cringe a bit but apparently, I'm "one of the normal ones". Cheers Tony!

Yes, a few. However, one has given up stw (still rides) and now bothers model plane flyers, and another has turned to road full time so spends his life sweating on strava.
