We will be in touch
any 1.8v DDR2 240 pin memory I could borrow...or buy? Only needs to be 256mb
Trying to set up my system and it wont recognise my new memory so need a 1.8v stick to get bios access to change the voltages.
What speed?
Moreover,
Unless you've overclocked it and you're talking about voltage being out of tolerance; in the unlikely event of your memory being the wrong voltage, it should be keyed so that it won't physically fit.
The memory fits into the slots fine. I dont know if it has been overclocked in the past as it was bought second hand.
Apparently its a common problem with ASUS Striker Extreme motherboards. They reset their voltage to Auto, which won't go above 1.8v (apparently).
I have read on various other forums that putting in a 1.8v stick at 533Mhz will allow you to get to the bios to change the settings (and possibly flash the bios too)
Oh yeah. This sort of thing?

What symptoms are you seeing?
Yep thats the one.
The system will power on, but there are no post beeps and no display. I have removed the memory and the graphics card but it wont beep to say "no vga" or "no memory". The LCD poster on the back just says "CPU INIT" and doesnt change. I have moved the memory to different slots and tried just one stick but no change.
I have done the CMOS reset (jumper change and button depress) but it hasnt made any difference.
The system is:
Core 2 Duo 820 (I think)
2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 8500
XFX Geforce 9800GTX 728
OCZ Modstream 550/620W Modular PSU
The lack of post beep could be something as simple as the case speaker being broken, but I dont have any way to test it. The only other graphics card I have is AGP and there isnt a port for it.
Right.
Well "CPU INIT" isn't an error, it's a success, saying it's initialised the CPU.
You could be right in your diagnosis, but I think I'd be double-checking the build first. Make sure you've not shorted anything out under the board when you fitted it in the case, make sure you've connected the little ATX CPU power connector as well as the big one, that sort of thing.
Rummaging the forums,
"make sure the button next to the LCD Poster is up(LED"s on the board are off) or it won't POST or power on"
Also, the memory trick you mentioned originally, seems to be that the key is to fit a single stick in the end slot; did you try that?
Yep checked that LED next to the LCD Poster and that is fine (onboard LED's are off).
Also tried just a single stick of memory in the end slot (my own HyperX 8500 memory) and still no joy.
I have also just taken the motherboard completely out of the case and run it externally, still nothing.
Fair enough. I'll have a look see what I've got kicking about. Only DDR2 I have to hand here is a 512Mb PC2-5300 stick, which I suspect isn't fast enough. You're welcome to borrow it, so long as you ping in back when you're done.
A quick google is showing pc2-5300 to run at 667Mhz, which seems to be what other people have used.
If its OK with you could I borrow it please?
I can have it returned to you by the weekend at the very latest.
