Alex Knight & Dave Cawley still run Fat Cat records the label down in Brighton - Dave discovered Sigur Ros & Animal Collective, Lee Grainge got into films, John Reynolds became a postman last I heard & sadly James Dyer who went on to run J Saul Kane’s DC label passed about 3 yrs back to Cancer.
I’ve seen most who I’ve wanted to see, and like above I probably saw TDV at Sundissential but can’t remember
However, I wish I could’ve seen Marshall Jefferson, Derek May, Carl Cox, Oakenfold, Weatherall, and Sasha at the Hac.
Fatboy Slim on Brighton Beach
And if I could wave a magic wand I would love to go back and be there for
Rampling, Oakenfold, Holloway, Alfredo in Ibiza 1988-1991
Richie Kaczor and Nicky Siano at Studio 54 1977-1980
Larry Levan, Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles at the Paradise Garage 1977
Frankie Knuckles at the Warehouse 1977-1983
The Sasha at The Hacienda thing is a bit of a myth, the main DJs there during 88-89 years were Pickering, Park, Jon Da Silva & on the odd occasion Laurent Garnier. There was also the legendary night that Colin Faver came up & played. Sasha really made his name later at Shelleys in Stoke.
There were 3 other Manchester DJs that never really get mentioned during that era that I’m sure by the sounds of it Rusty Spanner will remember - DJ Nipper, Jay Wearden & Steve Williams all played at the Thunderdome alongside The Spinmasters (808 State’s Darren & Andy).
Oh and I’ve not seen Westbam. Would love to see him one day…
I *think* I saw him at a Mayday party on NYE in Berlin, '91. He was certainly on the bill but it was all a bit chaotic.
Que Club - coffee at Maccies on the ramp- West End Bar - Sundissential
Funnily enough, only time I went to Orbit was to see Sven Vath, we went to the Spacehopper allnighter at Que then drove up to Leeds for the Orbit on the sat. Messy.
Best night ever of my life as TdV at Que.
Most memorable was seeing Dave Clarke spin techno with MC Ribbz doing his thing over the top. Access was a big tune that night....
I was thinking of Sasha at Shelley's, yeah.
We felt like we had it all in London then, and it could often be great, but I regret not making more effort to check out the regional scenes.
Not sure about Sundissential though.
Thought I'd check out Kevin's DJ style after the discussion above, he's bloody good actually...
Cracking mix!
Nobody's mentioned Singletrack's very own 'Making Up the Numbers' George Thompson 😀
Access was a big tune that night….
That was one of the anthems at Sex, Love & Motion at the Soundshaft, my regular early/mid 90s weekend haunt.
Along with Narcotic Influence & Positive Education.
Not many bigger tunes out there than Access, full stop.
