Not the most exciting question ever, but advice welcome!
We've moved house and initially fitted some cheap curtains in the lounge.
I've come to hang the new ones which are much heavier and it looks like the curtain batten is cracking/splitting in half lengthways. The previous owners had mounted their curtain pole brackets quite high on the batten and I think the leverage has been too much.
Any tips or tricks to fix this?
Best idea so far is a load of no-more nails in gaps and behind the batten, then drill countersunk holes in the wood for a load of drywall screws to go straight into the plasterboard. Obviously I can't get plugs in.
Not keen to remove the batten as it'll make a right mess!
If it’s onto plasterboard, remove the batten and fix a slightly wider one to cover any marks.
Make sure you screw through into the studs rather than the plasterboard.
In my experience the battens are usually there because trying to put fixings into the wall directly doesn't work because there's a lintel just under the plaster. I'd either replace the batten or screw a new one the same width onto the face of it.
