She talks a load of crap.

"When people see my son on the street they will think he's an immigrant".

No they won't.

They will think there's the son of an annoying middle class, hypocritical, twunt.

No they won't.

My friend's kid is half 3rd generation indian, half 2nd or 3rd generation carribean, 100% londoner and middle class as **** and he still gets told to go home. If you don't think this happens in our country I don't know where to start. To some people he will always be an immigrant because he's the wrong colour.

Hell, my ex's dad moved to Scotland in 1975 from Ireland but still thought it was fun to tell rival shopkeepers who were born here that they didn't belong and that they were taking jobs away from honest white immigrants who did

I have a mixed race niece and nephew, born and live in London, they don't report a major problem with this.

Eh? How will she and he know what people are thinking, are they mind readers? Presumptuous statements like that make me laugh!

Dianne Abbot is the reason I could never vote Labour.
Its one thing disagreeing with someone but she is just thick and shouldn't be in any position of responsibiliy.

From "Wolf Hall" . (TV adaptation).:

Italian dinner guest: "Aren't the English peculiar?"

Thomas Cromwell: "Christ! Aren't they...."

Gobuchul mixed English/Irish is still white but is correct as regards your last statement. (A gross simplification before anyone jumps on it. I am aware there are brown English and Irish Nationals).

While people are making ridiculous statements, I would also like to add that when I walk down the street people will think 'wow what a handsome hunk of a man he is I'd love to be with him'

Is there any reason that Abbott is on the radio non-stop, other than that she once had a fling with Corbyn? I suppose she might be the only MP prepared to defend him these days?

What? My relatives are black.

I'm from Irish immigrant stock and have come across plenty of English bigots.

However, the vast majority of people are not racist bigots from 1977, telling people to go home. There will always a by a minority of arseholes of all colours and creeds.

Abbott was talking about immigration in the context of Brexit and like plenty on here, was suggesting that the 50.1% of the UK population who voted leave, were a bunch of Alf Garnetts. It's simply not true.

This was just a way of showing Cromwell's cosmopolitan character and a comment on his time spent abroad in foreign courts. "Travel broadens the mind" and all that.

The unfortunate thing about Abbott is that she is so annoying as a person that it is very hard not to disagree with everything she ever says just because it's her that said it. I agree with her on this but have to do it through gritted teeth.

I can't not think of the Andrew Neil & Abbott sketches on Dead Ringers whenever she is mentioned...'and Diannnnne ABBOTT!!!!'

Well her media career predates any interest whatsoever in [having a pop at] Corbyn so what do you think the answer is?

FFS is everything a method to have a pop at Corbyn?

the vast majority of people are not racist bigots from 1977, telling people to go home
I agree its only a tiny minority who did this this might have been her point?
Abbott was talking about immigration in the context of Brexit and like plenty on here, was suggesting that the 50.1% of the UK population who voted leave, were a bunch of Alf Garnetts.

Starw man is strawy

out of interest what way do you think the racists voted in the Brexit vote for or against it

Seems that they needed them to win.

Some idiots have suggested ALL brexiters are racists and some idiots have suggested none are.
No one can deny that a certain part of their campaign was to play the race card on STW and on the wider debate - FFS even Brexiters were distancing themself from some of the overt racist campaigning of the leave vote.
All seems to be the case there have been more overt racist acts to immigrants since as well but its to early to say for certain

The unfortunate thing about Abbott is that she is so annoying as a person that it is very hard not to disagree with everything she ever says just because it's her that said it

Agreed and I agree it does not always mean she is wrong

Straw man is strawy Junkyard?

I would guess that a number of racists voted to stay as well. Depends what you define as racism really?

I wonder which way those lovely people traffickers voted? What about the rapists? Thiefs? Corrupt bankers?

Never been a guarantee of intelligence.

The Newnham reference was the important element. People that get accepted into Oxbridge are many things but unintelligent is not one of them. Lacking common sense, humility or 'worldliness' maybe; intelligence no. Especially those who were black, of immigrant parents educated in state schools in the 1970s.

A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent.

out of interest what way do you think the racists voted in the Brexit vote for or against it

After years of watching Question time then on the occasions I can manage it Any Question, It's clear she doesnt make the grade but has probably leveraged the best black female in the room card to progress this far.
Her commentary is usually so off the mark its cringeworthy.

Politics innit I mean BOJO is intelligent but i think the same of him.

I did not need it conforming that you had not got it. I realise this will most likely be taken as a shitty reply but the decision is yours Its an attempt to explain it to you in as unshitty way as i can - my general posting on here means this is unlikely to be taken that way but that is your call.
So this

Abbott was talking about immigration in the context of Brexit and like plenty on here, was suggesting that the 50.1% of the UK population who voted leave, were a bunch of Alf Garnetts.

You have claimed she was suggesting something - all Brexit are racist alf garnetters- when she was not suggesting this - you misrepresented her view in order to negate that point= straw man.
I simply asked a question about the topic you brought up - racism- and asked what way you think racists voted. I never misrepresented anything as its a question.
I am not debating this I am tying to educate
You can accept or ignore but you cannot be correct- will read as shitty but not meant to be.

You can be white and still get told to go home or worse

Man in Harlow

its all relative to the demographic of where you live. Is this the same son of Diane Abbott that went to private school and works in the Foreign office?

As quoted

'Once a black boy is lost to the world of gangs it's very hard to get them back and I was genuinely very fearful of what could happen.'

Which gangs would this be?

I can understand that, but I can't think of anyone so disconnected with the UK population as Abbot, not Cameron, not Boris, not Corbyn. You think she's think a bit considering how little she achieves.

Junkyard - Did you get battered at school a lot?

Listen to the prefix she puts on the front of every sentence when discussing it. It's the lefty hand wringer version of "I am not a racist but....".

Of course not everyone who voted leave is a racist, even she won't say that.

She did say something along the lines of "these people will never be satisfied about immigration control". "These people"!

I'm in the camp that believes that most of the Leave vote was driven by xenophobia. Sorry if that's not PC....it was a protest vote against the establishment of course, silly me!!!

Well she's been elected to Parliament for over 25 years so maybe she knows something about connecting to people that you don't.

Diane Abbott is on tv/radio as she's one of the very few MPs anyone has ever heard of who supports Corbyn. She is in the Shadow Cabinet of course for the same reason.

I'm with the OP I don't see her as an immigrant, she's as British as the next person. She is however not worth listening too.

Or perhaps she's in the safest of safe labour seats? Don't bother to reply, I already know the answer, as I suspect you do. If you don't, perhaps look it up?

Yeah, right. These plainly inaccurate attacks (thick, disconnected) start to look as though they are a cover for something else.

Jus sayin.
