Recommendations please ? Reasonably close to Waterloo station, not eating so only require good ales. Will be meeting up around 17:30 on a weekday so nothing *too* rammed would be ideal but a hard ask no doubt.

There used to be a great boozer in Lower Marsh. I believe it has now changed it's name to "Camel and Artichoke". Sounds dead poncey.

The Kings Arms is the one and has good beers. But it is busy after work. Very busy. There are good pubs a bit further from Waterloo (the Royal Oak near London Bridge is a favourite) but they're more of a walk.

Yeah kings arms is great or the White Hart round the corner. Wellington always a favourite rendezvous.

I definitely second the Royal oak in borough, it's one of my favourite pubs... a proper no nonsense boozer that serves Harvey's best bitter. Much less busy than the pubs nearer waterloo too
