JBL Charge 2 if you can get it for that price. Great sound, very long battery life, and it charges other devices! We have one and it's been fantastic.

MiniRigs are only good if they're combined with another one and the subwoofer. Then they're really good, but very expensive. JBL's small Bluetooth speakers sound better, in my experience.

I just got a Betron Bluetooth rechargeable thing from Amazon for £11 - I am astounded at how good it sounds for something that fits easily in the palm of my hand.

For a teenager? Whatever's cheapest, they're all tone deaf and listen to autotuned music.

Jbl flip seems pretty good, kids have had one for a couple of years, good sound and charge lasts ages.

In a true "recommend what you've got"

http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/electronics/audio/veho-360-m6-mode-retro-wireless-speaker-with-microphone/10967920.html

Only downside is you can't play music through it while it's charging

The micro USB socket on the latest Flip is really easy to break if you're clumsy. JBL replaced mine - the whole speaker under warranty - but it seems quite easy to bork, after which you can't charge the speaker. Otherwise it's a really neat bit of kit.

I got a creative muno mini, very good, and also 'weather proof'.

not too expensive if you shop around.

OP, do you want to spend around £90 as suggested in your OP?

Are there any particular requirements? Is it likely to get used for weekends away (long battery life), left out in the garden (waterproof) etc.

I got an Anker Bluetooth speaker a couple of years ago, and while I'm sure it's not as good as the expensive offerings from Bose & the like, it was only about £25, the sound quality is perfectly decent, it pairs simply & battery life is excellent; Anker quote 20hrs & I can well believe that's about right.

I got this one:

They do a new stereo version, which is more expensive and looks nicer. I imagine it will go louder & probably have better sound, but battery life has taken a bit of a hit....

I'd second Anker products - every product of theirs has been good quality and at a good price.

For a teenager? Whatever's cheapest, they're all tone deaf and listen to autotuned music.

And this! - my 13yr old daughter thinks her clock radio sounds perfectly fine!

Cheers for all of therecommendations, it will be used for a lot of outside entertainment as teen withersea plays a lot of hockey and pre-match music is an essential part of the build up! So ideally it needs to be waterproof, robust and I am guessing about 15 watts or more.

Doesn't sound like the Bose one you mention at the start fits those criteria very well...?
From what you've described, I'd be looking for a rugged/tough style speaker.
There's a review here of some good looking options:

The JBL Charge 2 I mentioned earlier is available for £80 online. Seems to fit all your criteria perfectly. Ours has been perfect since we got it, and is definitely waterproof as it gets used by my wife in the shower.

I saw a man last week, with a much larger portable speaker, which sounded really good. reminded me of the 80s when kids had enormous ghetto blasters, only it sounded a lot better and as a good bit smaller. Don't need one, but it's very tempting!
