arthur lee and bill hicks on the same night, hats off !
I'm fairly happy with who I saw as a teen, but like John, The Clash were still performing and I didn't see them, their first album is probably still my favourite. I seem to recall Joe Strummer had a rep for regularly going AWOL before gigs in the early 80s. Poly Styrene died recently, would have liked to have seen X-ray Specs. A few above have said Ian Curtis/Joy Division, I'd probably agree with them. Really old bands, Sky Saxon/The Seeds and probably Hendrix and Joplin/Big Brother and the Holding Co.
John Lennon
Freddie with Queen
Kurt Cobain/Nirvana
Bob Marley
I saw Arthur Lee at the T&C in Leeds in 94ish, Hicks wasn't there tho.
Queen (Freddy)
Free (Kossof)
Nick Drake
Jeff Buckley
Sandy Denny
Jimi Hendrix
The Who
Would have loved to have seen Joni Mitchell with Jaco Pastorious on bass.
Saw Pink Floyd and Rory Gallagher on the same evening at two different venues, seen the Clash, Thin Lizzy (five or six times), Metallica, (three times), Ian Dury and The Blockheads, (what a character),
I think Sandy is the one I most regret never having seen, her voice and music mean a great deal to me, and I could cry sometimes at having missed seeing her when she played Bristol Colston Hall. Very sadly missed.
Shane McGowan
before he went all zombie
Louis Armstrong would've been awesome.
Queen as well though and maybe Nirvana as well.
elvis, buddy holly, hank williams, johnny cash, hendrix & alex harvey
Mozart
Saw the floyd in 94 the night after the seating collapsed,
Me too! I was in the rebuilt bit too, I'd to surrender my posh "souvenir ticket" for a crappy one due to the layout changing.
Bob Marley
Dunno if you count this. But would loved to have seen Pantani in the flesh in the tour.
And George Carlin (comedian - rufus from Bill and Ted).
ah well in that case... John Belushi too...
Has to be G.G. Allin...total legend...
Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer up there too.
Malcolm Owen
Matthew Ashman - one of my favourite bass players - I did actually see him live once, but didn't know he was in the band!
Oh, I forgot to mention! Gram Parsons!!
Saw Zappa at Wembley Arena and it was a massive disappointment as he was off on one of his guitar trips although the film "Does humour belong in music" is a truly magnificent piece of work.
Saw Rory Gallagher at Hammersmith Odeon and it was ****in awesome.
I'd like to add Johnny Cash to my list
How about people who you don't want to see and wish were dead?? ๐
The list might get quite long!
To answer the op's question - Joe strummer
BILL HICKS AND ARTHUR LEE liverpool may 1992
Metallica with Cliff Burton
Alice in Chains with Layne Stayley (new lineup is good though)
Queen with Freddie Mercury
Stuart Adamson- Big Country
One of my lifes only regrets is not seeing the band of my childhood before SA 's tragic death.
Brack, I met Stuart Adamson whilst working at HMV in the mid 90s. Out of the people that did store appearances he was the most down to earth and peaceful. A real shock when he took his life.
My choices...
Layne Staley - Alice in Chains
Gerard Smith - TV on The Radio
Andrew Wood - Mother Love Bone
Stinkerbell ----- GG Allin????? You must be wanting something in a gig to see him fling sh*t around!!
metallica with cliff burton
poison idea with pig champion
I had tickets to see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck at Hammersmith - but SRV died two weeks beforehand ๐ I was hoping that was going to be a 'Seeing Hendrix at Woodstock'-style revelation moment...
I have been lucky enough to have a couple of other people here's wants though. I saw Queen with Freddy at Wembley in '86. And I saw Pantani on the Ventoux.
Stuart Adamson- Big Country
Surely The Skids would've been the choice?
This belated fondness for Big Country is a complete mystery to me.
Gerard Smith - TV on The Radio
Holy... I didn't know he'd died. ๐
The original Lynyrd Skynyrd
