Just the thought of it makes me feel queasy, but I've been advised for health reasons to avoid caffeine, so wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a decent cuppa builders tea? I'm normally happy with PG tips or Tetley etc.

I drink decaff PG tips after 6 pm and it tastes OK, just doesn't have the same effect on sleep.

Mrs Dubs only drinks decaff tea - her brand of choice is Yorkshire, but she doesn't mind a PG.

My Mrs loves Aldi de-caff. Personally, I think it's horrible stuff but she drinks it by the gallon.

I like the Sainsbury’s one in the blue box.

I switched to decaf everything a while back for a couple of years as I'd gone way too far the other way and had found myself trying to sleep on the ceiling at 3am, vibrating quietly to myself.

I was somewhat pleasantly surprised to find that decaf PG was be fairly indistinguishable from the regular stuff.

Yorkshire tea here, too. Put a stop to restless nights, it did.

Decaf Tetley here. Just tastes like tea.

Another one for Yorkshire Decaf. Our local Home Bargains does it for half the price of the big supermarkets.

Went decaf everything about two years ago, can't tell the difference taste wise. Decaf Yorkshire tea and also decaf Tetleys, both on offer in my local B&M so might be available in other stores too.

Okay thanks guys....doesn't sound too horrific, I'll buy a few different packs and see what I like best.

Whilst on the subject, de-caff instant coffee? I like gold blend or Kenco normally, so any thoughts on that?

L’Or decaff is pretty decent for instant coffee. But only buy it when it is on sale cos it is ridiculously pricey.
Anecdote: The plumber fixing my kitchen sink was moaning that his wife was forcing him to drink decaf tea & it was horrible. Not like that nice cuppa I’d just given him. I maintained a tactful silence (Yorkshire decaf)

Yorkshire decaf is good.
Avoid 'fairtrade' stuff as most of it tastes shite.
Also the ASDA stuff is pretty good too.

Try some rooibos (redbush) tea. Tastes rather different to proper tea, but nice in its own way.

Cheap Lidl de-caff … it's fine.

+1 for the Redbush tea option. Pretty quickly it just became 'tea' to me. In fact the couple of times I drank regular tea by mistake I was fairly repulsed.

Going caffeine free was one of the best things i've done, it's powerful stuff once you are off it - If I go back to even a normal tea it blows my head off! Don't even think about coffee

Just be aware that ‘decaf’ tea still has some caffeine, the only real decaf is redbush. My girlfriend can’t have caffeine so I have been drinking Tick Tock rooibos green tea and Dragonfly rooibos Earl Grey, both are worth a try if you can get hold of them (not every supermarket stocks them, Booths do if you are in the North West).

Yorkshire for me if I have a choice. I find I have to leave it a bit longer to brew but makes an alright cup.

We drink Clipper decaff. To be fair it's the only tea we have in these days so no full fat for visitors. We've had plenty of compliments on a good cuppa and no one knows that they've been served up decaff. I'm not much of a test drinker so maybe my opinion doesn't count for much but I couldn't tell the difference between the clipper stuff and a "regular" brew. The caffeine is filtered out without the use of chemicals, too.

I genuinely don't find any effect from caffeine - am I broken?

(strong cafetière x 2 cups a day only though)

Mrs a11y converted to decaf tea when she was pregnant, didn't bother changing back.

I was advised to drink decaff tea.. my theory was that they’d all be bloody horrible so I bought the cheapest. Asda own brand, it’s grim, but it was about £4 cheaper than Tetley and the like.

Another vote for Yorkshire decaf tea. The rest taste awful!

Tetley Decaf here, but only as that's all I can get.

NZ$11 (for a 2.50 quid marked up packet!) is a rip off but worth it. I've taken to buying the 8+ month out of date stock for a bargain NZ$5 and it tastes the same.

Rooibos is nice, but it's not tea, really. I sound like Arthur Dent.

Another vote for Yorkshire decaf here. Second that you need to give it a good steep, longer than the equivalent caffeinated Yorkshire for the same strength brew. Three bags for a two person amount in a pot works well.

So Yorkshire is like their normal tea then? Tastes of nothing!

Yorkshire decaf here too

It's the only option in our house and it gets made using the Quooker !!

STW theory states it should be rank.... But it's not ... it doesn't taste any different to the cuppa Im drinking right now in work, which is full fat made using a kettle.

Good luck

Decaf tea doesn't taste any different to normal, why would it?

PG Tips is my favourite, but Aldi's decaf is fine too.

And yes it does have a bit of caff in it still.

The Mrs. and I switched to decaf tea by default a few years back.

Yorkshire Decaf was the only acceptable decaf a few years back. Tetley's is ok now and I use Sainsbury's at work as well, whatever is on offer. They're all pretty ok now. I won't say great, because some tea snob will be along in a moment to rip me a new one.

They are always going to taste different, as one can taste the caffeine. It has a particular flavour. I won't shout about it because if you understand what it tastes like you will notice that it's not there and it runs the illusion of your perfectly decent cup of tea!

Well, because the tea goes through a process to remove the caffeine which changes the flavour. (As well as removing the flavour of the caffeine)

We drink Twinings Decaff Earl Grey in the evenings, definitely weaker flavour than their full fat version, but still pretty decent. Outrageously expensive though, so mainly buy when on offer.

Tetley decaf is a bit different to Tetley normal, I think. A bit less.. tart.. it's smoother and mellower. Less tannin maybe.

No. Don’t know if its true put I was told the tannin blocks (or counteracts) the effect of the caffeine. I only get any effect on days when I drink more than 20 cups but being as the only days that happens is when I’ve been working all night to a deadline with a big cost penalty the effect is probably only partly the tea.

Get an instant caffeine hit off coffee but then I drink perhaps one or two cups a month

Yorkshire decaf tea is probably the best one I've tried. The trick to making it not taste like tea-tinted water, though, is to stew it for AGES.

Have swapped to the Sainsburys version for cost reasons (even though I rarely shop there)… just as good, but not quite as damaging to the wallet.

Side effect is that your teapot does not stain at all.

Right then, I popped into Waitrose and bought some Yorkshire tea decaf and made a cup an hour back in t'office and then promptly forgot it was de caf and only remembered a bit later.

So if that isn't a great review, I don't know what is!
