I'm currently in the process of insulating/carpeting a Caddy to take the bike/kayak etc on day trips out.
It's already ply lined, but I was wondering what to use for the floor - ideally not carpet with wet/muddy kit; maybe some sort of rubber flooring? Has anyone got any experience with this?
I have a big industrial rubber backed mat, the type you get just inside doors, absorbs any water from bike etc, and can be whipped out and pressure washed.
I got a roll of this stuff & fitted it like you would Lino

Thought this was going to be about a new Belgian cycling star.
Bliemy - that's expensive when you can get a pre-cut one with a lipped edge for less! If it was me, I'd leave it loose for easy removal and washing.

Made me chuckle - good work.
OP - I used some interlocking foam mats that are meant for kids play areas or yoga etc. They are bright , which is good - nice to walk on barefoot and hardwearing so far.
2 issues - 1) they've expanded a bit and expand further in the heat, so I need to take them up, trim them leaving a little expansion room and put them back. 2) they are a bugger to sweep dirt / gravel out of due to the raised "checker plate" style plumps on them.
If I can find something that is light coloured (a van is dark enough, plus it makes it easier to find stuff I drop or leave lying around!) and easier to sweep but keeps the other benefits then I may replace them.
Si
Commercial slip resistant vinyl. Comes in 2m wide rolls, get a cut to correct length from a flooring distributor and use spray adhesive. Job done.
@tthew Looks tiny, literally just the back of the boot? So obviously going to be cheaper! The one I linked to is 6 square metres, more than enough to do the whole load bay of my Transit Custom (overkill for a Caddy admittedly 😂)Bliemy – that’s expensive when you can get a pre-cut one with a lipped edge for less!

you’re thinking of Hertz Van Rental
If the back is already ply lined and you want it to be easy to clean just paint the ply with floor paint.
Altro or if your cheap lino
My van had a ply floor, so I cleaned it and then went mad with heavy duty varnish. Once that was all good, i put some lightweight foam mat on top for foot niceness and it was job done.

Not Rusty van Welding?
You can get rubber flooring a lot cheaper than the link above.
Look for 'penny' rubber flooring or 'stable' mat.
We got the stuff for our camper van boot (another member of the Belgian team) from ebay:
(Altro is very good, but very expensive unless you can find an offcut somewhere).
Look for ‘penny’ rubber flooring
now that is cheap!
I used Altro over a 12mm ply floor. job jobbed.

Oh yeah! I assumed the 2 seat referred to driver and passenger, (i.e. a van) not 2 rear passenger seats. 🙄 I thought it was good value!
now that is cheap!
Even cheaper if you turn up to collect with cash in yer pocket *
* well it was when I did a couple of years back
I used the penny rubber flooring in my van off eBay.
It's not a day van though, it's always a van and I use it for work and mucky activities.
It has a bit of a scent not unlike rubber...for a couple of weeks or so but it's great now.
We’ve Astro-turfed our last two vans. It’s great; nothing slides around, it helps with road noise, dirt and sand just seems to disappear into it, and it looks great! Really comfy to sit and lie on too.
picture and/or link required! 😀
Our old T4. The new T5 has a one piece fitting from front all the way to the back so it is held in place by all the cut-outs around all the seats.
EDIT: no idea why the Flickr links don’t work. They’ve worked before and the photos are public...
I have some Wisa Hexa phenolic board for mine left over from a work job.
IIRC it's ~£50 a sheet, black is the cheapest colour.
If you are having to put a ply sub floor down with a non slip covering over that its the same overall price but less hassle to do it in Hexa

I fitted Altro flooring on top of a ply floor my last van (VW T4). I got an offcut from ebay and used the right adhesive. If I was doing it again, I'd invest in a heavy roller to make sure it was properly flat though... It was very hard wearing but did show a few scuffs from the bikes and things did still slide around.
In the end, I swapped it out for a VW factory rubber cargo area mat. My new van has the same - it's a lot better for kneeling on, sleeping on and stopping stuff sliding about. It's also more waterproof.
Non slip bathroom Lino/flooring in mine. Waterproof and er non slippy.
Appreciate all the responses - this issue was underlined yesterday when I had the inflatable kayak in the back of it; which it turned out was still full of water.
I'll get some photos up as it's done. Thanks again!
I used the rubber penny flooring from Ebay as well:

It's been in the van for a few years now, super durable and easy to clean after muddy bikes. I think it was about £70 for enough for a SWB Vivaro.
(not very stealth ad) I've actually got another roll spare (my brother changed plans). It's 1.8m Wide Coin Rubber Roll | 3mm Thick | 3m Long, if it's any use to anybody, drop me a PM. Would need collecting from South Lakes as it's pretty weighty.

Will it fit in the back of a van? 🤪
doom_mountain , DM’d you.
That penny flooring is what is fitted as standard to the garage in our camper.
Its great stuff and still looks like new when we wipe it down after 4 wet and sludgy bikes have been in and out a few times
