I have been prescribed Daridorexant to help with sleep, does anyone take this drug?
I have never heard of it. I did look it up and while nothing like as dangerous as benzodiazipines I wouldnt want to take it regularly or long term unless the insomnia was really crippling
Is they anything specific you would you like to know? My sister has recently been put on it. Previously very active person with utterly debilitating second bout of long COVID. Lack of sleep due to CFS really hampering her attempts at recovery. She's only about 3 weeks in, but had reported an improvement with few of the side effects that previous sleeping tablets have had . So initial reportb looks promising.
As a GP, I am really concerned about long term use. History tells us that whenever a new medication is launched it takes us 10-20 years to properly understand the side effects of a medication. When z-drugs (zopiclone etc) first came out, the pharma companies swore blind that they didn't have the same addiction and tolerance effects as benzodiazepines, and yet they do.
How much do you want to know? Dual orexin antagonism is the first new mode of action in sleep for many years. This is not the first orexin blocker, and incremental new drugs bring some benefits (e.g. tuning half life, fewer drug interactions).
As for addiction, orexin blockade has been suggested as a treatment for substance abuse addiction, although there is debate over whether one needs to block orexin 1 and/or orexin 2. Compared with older benzodiazepines, if I needed a sleeping tablet, I’d want to try an orexin blocker
nice review here;
If you have any underlying conditions that are causing your insomnia, you might consider an Indica vape or alternatively a CBD/Hemp vape, Legally available in the UK, these do not produce a high. Instead, they use hemp-derived CBD and natural terpenes to relieve tension, stress, relaxes the muscles and promotes sleep.
