So my daughter is now "into" vinyl and wants a Dansette.

So much for the technological advances of digital music and iPods etc.

The problem is I remember them new, and they are crap IMO. But is she interested in a decent turntable and amp? No way.

She wants one for Xmas. I've tried directing her to a Hacker and other somewhat better alternatives, but no luck.

Does the STW netbrain know of anything else suitable?

I've got two, but doubt I can get one to you for Xmas.

I used to have two, one of which was used as a coffee table as [s]the sound quality was so bad[/s] you could hear the vinyl being torn away by the terrible stylus.
1210s FTW

Seeing the word Dansette reminds me of Billy Connolly ๐Ÿ™‚

I have no idea about turntables but both Richer Sounds & Superfi have wide ranges; yes i know that's totally unhelpful.........

Just get her what she wants?

Her priorities are different to yours. You care about good sound, she obviously likes the design of the Dansette.

I'd just be glad I had a kid who appreciated vinyl ๐Ÿ™‚

She'll be wanting to play our vinyl too.

Stuff we've had and treasured since the 60s...

I don't care what happens to her own records. ๐Ÿ™‚

I take it she's a bit "retro" in her thinking?

I have a 1210, but If I had to buy now I'd go for a Rega or Project with some active speakers

Dansettes were quite posh. A girl who hung around with us had a Mettoy[?] Music maker, it was a plastic kids record player, it ran off the batteries from road lamps. We listened to albums out in the sun on hot summer days. Lying in the grass looking up at a blue sky, while stoned and with dark side playing, that is bliss.
