Just about to sit down and relax and the only thing I have to watch is Sunshine....

Is it worth the 2 hours?

I enjoyed the first 2/3. After that it goes a bit hammy horror for me.

Too much style over content. It's not Alien. Watch Moon instead.

I thought it was really good. But not as good as the one it kind of echoes, with Sam Neill, hang on...... ah yes, Event Horizon.

Meh. I watched it, but it wasn't anything special. Wouldn't recommend it personally

It does settle into a sort of disappointingly familiar groove at a certain point but on the whole I liked it. Definitely worth a watch IMO.

Fact : Everybody's fav professor (Brian Cox) was technical science advisor for the film, good film and best watched on a very large screen in a dark room wi the sub turned right up so it shakes your fillings.

Everybody's fav professor (Brian Cox) was technical science advisor for the film,

That, for me, would be a negative. Coxy just annoys me...

Still a good film though!

Silent Running really didn't do anything for me.

One of my favourite films, the 1970s were the golden age of Sci-fi imo.

Sunshine was ok, wouldn't watch it again.

What an odd thing to say. it's not as if he appears in it.

I thought it was an excellent film. I also liked the horror-type ending, but then again, I like horror films.

Silent Running: I watched it based on Mark Kermode's recommendation that it is the only perfect film he has ever seen. I promptly fell asleep and sent it back to Lovefilm without watching the rest.

Sunshine - just about passable,
Moon - brilliant,
Silent Running - of it's day but well watching.

Post a review, it'll be interesting to see which side you come down on.

Just asking. What has the f that got to do with him advising the film? Presumably they were trying to get the science right, right?

Apparently all the science in the film is theoretically possible, just not at this present time with our limited scientific ability, although that is all according to an article i read online regarding Brian Cox's involvement with making sure the science married up with the story. i'm prob wrong though as i've been duped before so i am open to ridicule.

It's a decent film. Far better than most of the shite that passes for "scifi" these days. It's not better than Moon though. Quite different to Moon to be fair.

I seem to remember being surprised how good it was. Though didn't know it was a Danny Boyle at the time.

Cox was a little bit embarrassed by his involvement when questioned about it on IMC

Agreed. But, IMO, the best sci-fi of recent times is Monsters. Superb production and soundtrack, reasonably good acting, coupled with great FX and storyline; a right corker. And on TV this evening...

A good film so far.....

But I may have closed my eyes for a short while.....so who is the fifth member going around and killing the remaining crew?

Is it someone from the existing crew or from the other ship???

Other ship. The sun-bleached guy...

i like the film, but there is one point i dont get, why did they send the only scientist who knows bout the bomb and how to detonate it to fix the shieldy bit that broke along with the captain, also a very important part of the film. shouldnt 2 others have gone?

I think the clue to the weirdness is when they board Icarus I and the photo of the crew (of Icarus I) that are flashed up is almost exactly the same as the 'team photo' of the crew of Icarus II.

To me that says they were all starting to fall apart mentally, like the crew of Icarus I did (I don't think Pinbacker killed them all, some were in the observation deck when Searle is left alone). Searle was obsessed with what he'd seen in the sun when the filter was low. Kaneda had seen the same thing (what Pinbacker refers to as 'His God'), and even though he'd finished the repair stayed to see the sun in it's full glory. Hence Searle shouting 'WHAT DO YOU SEEEEE?' at him.

Capa went because he wanted to show he wasn't just along for the ride. And because Mace volunteered him and he didn't want to lose face.

Like some of the others, I thought it was good for the first 2/3s and awful afterwards. Kept finding lots of holes in the plot and feasibility too.

Glad you enjoyed it Mounty. A nice way to spend a wet Friday afternoon. I'll probably have to wait ten years for the kids to grow up before I can do that again. I'll be sure to give Sunshine another go when I get the time. ๐Ÿ˜‰
