My boss has decided, finally!, that he'd like some proper cycling pics around the shop, framed and displayed. My thinking is, if anybody wants their work displayed in the A4 format, please email me via profile, the addy is real. I can print off .jpg and possibly other formats.
It doesn't have to be hard-core mtb'ing, just whatever cycling*, biking* or just riding a bike* means to you (* choose the best-fitting). Oh, and the proper credit will be given.
It might bring you some business as we are right at the finish line of the Irish RoS (sort of a massive road race over here in county Dublin) in May.
Thanks!
Kris

Why is it that people after some photography/design/illustration always assume that doing there job for free will lead to more paid work? I assume a plumber wouldn't fit my shower for free on the back of me telling my friends how good he was or in return for letting him sign it.

On the other hand, if I was any good at taking photos I would happily send them to be displayed somewhere...I reckon it's a great idea.

It's only photography though, anyone can do it, can't they ?

😉

I do a bit of teaching at an art college and I kid you not, a lot of the students who sign up for photography do so because they believe that it's going to be as easy as pressing a button and handing in a print.

Taking pics is easy, taking good pics is really quite hard.
I suggest if he wants free pics then go get a camera and take some, if he wants good pics then he'll have to pay for them.

I suppose it depends on whether you're a "one really nice print" or a "handful of mediocre prints" kinda person.

The old 'promise of more work' is no more than a play on photographers' egos (we've all got one, some more hidden than others) and the dream that you'll magically make it big without the years of hard work and large credit card bills traditionally required.

and don't the professionals hate that ?

i guess it depends what kind of photography you do?
general high st type portrait and low end commercial work photographers probably feel threatened by the flickr merchants and camera club members.

the higher up the profession and more specialised you are then the less you have to worry about an amateur with a dslr.

Right, if I had any photos that were ok I'd hang them there. All I'm saying is there is a bit of space that can be taken up by good (looking good, not necessarily art-good) pics of people and bikes. I've framed some old MTB calendars but if somebody like SFB or PP wanted to get their piccy displayed than why not?
Most of the pics I have on my HDD are of others' so will not be used.

I do some cycling and some photography - why don't you give me a bike, I'll tell everyone where I got it from - it might bring you in a lot of business.

hairychested

have a look at the link, don't mind you using any of the photo's - just credit me etc.

you might not think they are any good though.

Link is to the complete site, so you'll have to sort through the different albums - quite a bit of speedway (for speedway fans)

Denis99, thanks. Some of it will brighten up the shop. Can you email me (in profile) how you want the credits worded, please?
BTW The grey Orange shot is just so inspiring, makes me want such a bike even more 🙂

hairy

no problem - just use them

drop me a pm detailing the images you want, i'll burn the full resolution images and put them on a cd in the post for you.

the web images have a reduced resolution, so they look ok on the web and save a bit of storage space

They'll look much better at full resolution, my email in in the profile.
