65 without loss - and 52 of the runs coming from 4s!

N. ICE!

There were a few edges in there at the start, but still good result so far for the Poms... poor bowling from the Aussies with a new ball (though sounds like the pitch is even more batsman friendly than Cardiff!)

Yup - by the sound of it the pitch is as flat as.

So - another draw on the cards then?

Good lord... what a horrible day for the bowlers 😯 Finally a wicket though, hurrah! Shame for Cook to fall short of a well deserved ton...

things have evened up a bit now, thankfully 8) top innings from Strauss so far, a real captains knock, kudos 😀

a double Nelson (222) and a triple Nelson (333) in the same innings... gotta love cricketing superstitions! 😀

Yep, on TMS they were trying to work out what the Aussies would do to counteract the sextuple nelson they had last week. I'd say it was your day psychle-particularly disappointing as we had such a good opportunity. Almost 200 without loss, Johnson chucking pies, Hauritz crippled. Did exactly what we did last week, seem to have forgotten this isn't a 1 day match.

Doh!
Hilfenhaus looks a really handy bowler. Fantastic so far this series, unlike Johnson.

Excellent morning for Oz so far, a farcical collapse from England really... Let's see what our batsman can make of this pitch... hopefully a repeat of Cardiff (our first innings that is 😀 )

Well, here's our new batting lineup: Strauss, Cook, Anderson, Onions, Broad, Swann, Monty, Freddie.

Now who will be the bowlers?

To state the obvious, there's a lot of match left in this wicket. We do seem to have them under the cosh at the moment. Roll the clock back an hour and the reverse was true, love matches like this. Would like to have the Aussies out for less than 350.

I love the way Ponting is unhappy about being out caught (correctly), when he would have actually been out LBW that ball if the umpire hadn't thought he'd hit it!

He's unhappy because the umpire made a bad decision... he didn't hit that at all. Maybe he could have been given out LBW, but Koertzen may have already adjudged that not out (though maybe because he thought there was an inside edge... who knows. That's cricket though, you take the good with the bad 🙄 )

He's unhappy because he has a face like an Easter Island statue sh1tting razor blades. Miserable little piggy-eyed runt.

It's unusual for the good (not being given out LBW when he was) to be quite so coincident with the bad (being given out caught when he wasn't) 🙂

half an hour ago I was just thinking that the day would turn out fairly even, then Katich and Hussey fall... bugger 🙁 the day is definitely England's now... can they capitalise or will Clarke and North dig in?

111-5 or 5-111

Going well, isn't it, psychle?

(BTW, you ride an Enduro, I think. Sure I've seen it in R'mond Park of an evening!)

Yep not going too well right now, but teams have come back from worse positions... these two both scored centuries last test, so it's not like they're out of form. I do ride an Enduro, but most likely not me you've spotted in Richmond Park, I'm up Islington way (though do occaisionally get down there for a pottle).

Ah, must be another then!

you should get Dizzy "Double Centurion" Gillespie out of the TMS box for a bat!

alright then... I like this new strategy: let's bat so badly we get the follow on, then bat magnificently to post a substantial 2nd innings lead for England to try and chase down 😀

Bloody apalling batting from Australia today... the bowling has been tight, but not brilliant, certainly not good enough to get this sort of result 🙄

Nope... we're just batting very poorly and England is bowling nice and tight (but not spectacularly, at least IMHO 😀 )

thems the rules... if you can see shadows then you can take the light... any team would've done the same in this position.

I'm off to watch Barry Trotter now, so don't take my silence for the next few hours as some sort of aussie sulk 🙄 tomorrow's a new day and I feel confident we can fight back from here and make a contest. My 50 squid is still safe Lanesra! 😀

+1 😀

And Psychle - what do you mean, what slope? How can you be a cricket follower and not know about the substantial gradient at the home of cricket? 😉

I'm amused that Australia bowled 'excellently' at Sofia Gardens, but the only reason we've got any wickets is because you gave them us! Granted, we gave you a couple, but at least we were gracious enough to credit you aussies a highly intelligent bowling attack. No such credit when the boot is on the other foot eh? I guess that's the spirit of the game though 😉

Could it be this all over again?

[img] [/img]

Admittedly this isn't a great England side, but then most of the Aussies are mediocre themselves. That leaves two sides relatively evenly matched, but with a lot to prove - fascinating...

BBC Sport's Oliver Brett on Twitter: "Asked Dean Jones what he thought of Strauss' decision: 'When you're bleeding from every orifice it's time to put the sword in and he didn't'."

my thoughts exactly. 🙁

At least the Aussie batsman can take some heart from this English innings, ball isn't doing much etc... though I don't honestly give us much hope of chasing this down 😆 Plenty of time though, so who knows, miracles do happen eh? 😀

Not much hope of chasing it down but plenty of hope of hanging on for a draw pom style with the assistance of rain, unnecessary physios etc 😉

When are Steve Waugh and Glenn McGrath's kids going to be of playing age?

I'm sure Poontang

Nice... a tad childish don't you think? 🙄 Cricket's a gentlemans game guv'ner, it has courtesy and manners 😀

I think Punter (and Australia) will have good reason to be a bit miffed at 3 of our wickets today, the cricket gods certainly seem to be against us! Katich out off a clear no-ball, Hughes out off a suspect catch (exactly the same really as the one Koertzen referred yesterday 🙄 ) and now Hussey out without actually edging it (though maybe a tough one to call...) bloody hell...
