Interesting post on Fear of Landing.

https://fearoflanding.com/accidents/vintage-plane-crash/

A youtuber fits up his light aircraft with multiple cameras, dons parachute, heads over the mountains then has engine failure. Leaves plane and parachutes to the ground while filiming the whole thing.

Other local pilots are suggesting that this may have been faked. From the location of the engine failure there were emergency landing spots within reach. Another pilot cut his engine at the same spot before gliding to an airfield.

The bit I find hard to believe is that having had unexpecteded engine failure and jumped out the pilot managed to keep hold of his selfie stick to film himself in freefall.

I remember the reaction when it happened. Don’t think anyone believed it was for anything other than views.

According to the link it due some major maintenance so might not have been that expensive 🤔

There was hubbub about it a few months ago. It did seem he deliberately crashed a plane, which was apparently all but condemned anyway, while fitted with loads of cameras. He also hiked back to the crash, not out to help, and managed to remove cameras. Iirc he had also edited up the film and deleted the unedited film before investigators could view.

Seems to have worked - £1.6m views!

Have to say it does seem a very odd set of circumstances.

How much was the plane worth and how much did he get from the YouTube advertising? Don't know the answer to either but it'd be interesting to find out if the sums do add up.

Yep, completely staged.
Apparently you can see where he's routed a fuel line (or something) into the cockpit so he could cause the engine to "fail".

Those that know say that he could pretty easily have landed the plane.
It's also possible to see fire extinguishers strapped to his legs as he jumps out.

Guy sounds like an A1 knob.
