First Nations, actually.
Depends on your perspective. First Nations tribes had been fighting one-another for centuries, and the various nations had little in common, language, ways of life, religion, all frequently quite different.
Not unlike differences between Sunni/Shia, Catholic/Protestant, with as little understanding or compromise.
Just fewer weapons of mass murder.
