Don't the yanks get like a week annual holiday too? Screw that...

Meet some septic couple in Assisi, Italy, last year. He was proudly telling us that this was his longest vacation (😭 🤮), a while two weeks, as he had been at his company for ten years and he got given one days holiday for every year he had been there.... Although it only kicked in after his fifth year of service.

I felt genuinely sorry for them both and paid for their drinks.

I worked in the US for a year, fortunately my UK holiday benefits went with me but I recall my colleges only getting a couple of weeks. They worked long hours too, though I'd question how productive they didn't always seem to work particularly hard compared to UK but I don't think you can over that many hours.

At the same time we have become less productive so that's not a great combo for growth.

Have we though? I'm pretty sure I get a shit load more done at work than when computers didn't exist etc

Everyone has computers. Our productivity has fallen compared to our competitors'. Decaying infrastructure doesn't help on that front either.

Not the greatest time to drive a nearly 3t,  5 litre v8.

Yeah - actually there never was.

Productivity isn't how hard you work, but the value of what you produce so shuffling 'paper' around on a computer doesn't really have much value when you're comparing wealth to others. So what's the value of what you make, or what you make locally.  Lots of the UK is comparable to the less affluent parts of Eastern Europe in terms of what's actually generated of value.  Ergo your standard of living will slide back to match those , and if you live in an expensive country it will be painful.  A lot of that is lack of investment especially by the Cameron government, but it's been dragging a while.

'They worked long hours too, though I'd question how productive they didn't always seem to work particularly hard compared to UK but I don't think you can over that many hours.' - I'd say that about the UK to be honest.  Most of Europe works less hours, but produces more

Another "spike" tomorrow. Diesel up to...... $3.45 a litre.  91 will be 2.29.

Lucky our PM "slashed" our fuel excise down to 26c for three months... That's helped loads. Just not us motorists. Slashing 26c when fuel is a dollar more + than it was pre invasion....

Even our state Premier has moved from his place (35km) from the city to be, closer to the city due to traffic / fuel. Easy for some eh?

I've started buying chocolate in 2.5 Kg wholesale bags as the price of bars in the supermarket is a piss take.

1st bag 5th Jan - £42.40 (£16.96/Kg)

2nd bag 21st Feb - £36.00 (£14.40/Kg)

3rd bag 13th April - £31.00 (£12.40/Kg)

Wholesale price is falling. Ran out and bought a bar yesterday - own brand bar in the Co-op £2.80 (£28/Kg) - still going up. Robbing ba$tards.

Interesting priorities. You don't need to be faster than the lion, you just need to be faster than the fat, tasty guy behind you....

I don't make gravy with stock cubes no, I make stock.

If I'm making gravy other than from scratch then I use Bisto Best.  Because it is.  They've done vegetable and onion gravies for years, but you can get meat-free chicken and (I think?) beef now too.

I do a mean home-made onion gravy, but it's not a short process.  Fine if you're doing a Sunday roast, not so good if your chips are getting cold.

I use both, it depends on what I'm making.  Just as meaty dishes might call for chicken or beef stock (or horror of horrors, vegetable stock), I wouldn't use meat-free beef stock in a leek & potato soup.

I have vegetable stock cubes for making soup etc... cheap Lidl ones though.

Both Bisto best and Oxo vegan beef together for gravy... never fails. No own brand substitutes for that.

Robola: bought some bits from a scummy ASDA in Folkestone. Threw in a random bar of chocolate due to greed. Bill seemed higher than expected. On the way home, looked at the bill and realised that the small bar had cost me £4.95. Since when has such been so??

Already dropped again - £26.80 (£10.72/Kg)

All supermarket price comparisons should quote price/weight. The use of sloppy language like 1 small bar is exactly how they want you to shop😉

Me and probably every other cnt round here will be filling up tomorrow as ULP (91) will be $1.80 per litre unless there's an issue overnight. Sky News says there's been some movement in the market and said something about "possibly something about to happen and markets affected by insider trading". More to come. lol. What, surely it's not all about oil...... ?

The shops I use do. That's how I make my.comparisons. I've no idea about if the others do or not as I don't shop there 😭

It's really hitting hard now.... Just bought the first box of choco Leibniz I've had for a long time because they were "on offer" at £1.50 (the offer price always used to be £1) Excitedly opened them up to find just 8 biscuits inside.... not 9!! Need to check the lidl own brand version now to see if they've gone the same way.

On the news earlier - that food will go up 50% in price by November.

Our WI supports the local food bank, a few months ago 80 members were giving around £50-£60 per monthly meeting. Now we have a membership of 110 and only £42 was raised at the last meeting. Money is tight, food is expensive and it's getting harder to keep the food banks running,  and more people are needing the help of this charity.

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit projects a 50% cumulative increase in food costs from 2021 to November 2026.  It's a big deal, especially for a food bank, but they're not projecting a 50% increase from now to November.

I made up a big batch of chilli con carne earlier today, went to the big supermarket to buy mince beef.

£9.30 for a kilo?! 😳

I can't remember what it cost last time I made it (a batch will last months in the freezer) but £9.30 seemed very expensive.

Try telling that to the cow or indeed the farmer.
