Doesn’t seem to be one at the moment, so I thought it might be worth starting one.
Had to pop into town today with the car, to pick up some items I didn’t want to lug home on foot, and while I was in Tesco I started browsing the spirits isle, just to see what offers were around. There were some with Tesco Clubcard offers on, and I suddenly remembered I had a clubcard on my car keys, so I bought a bottle of Jura, a bottle of Laphroaig, and a bottle of Highland Park, and saved £32!
Any equally good offers around on decent Bourbon? Buffalo Trace, Woodfords, something like that?

was given a tip last night - by a friend who's right into his bourbon - Angel's Envy

About £50 a bottle but he reckons it's exceptional

Jura, a bottle of Laphroaig, and a bottle of Highland Park,

That will be whisky not whiskey 🙂

Point of note here, IME the "Clubcard price" is the price they've been selling stuff at for years. The non-Clubcard price is inflated.

Yep, you can find most of them at the clubcard price in other supermarkets for the same price. I just did a check and the highland park 12 year is available in waitrose for £25 as well as numerous places online and I'm sure the rest are the same.

Rarely buy whisky from the supermarket these days, there is virtually nothing on offer that provides some of the basic benchmarks of quality: age statement, natural colour, non-chill filtered, ABV of 46% or higher. Ardbeg 10 might be a rare exception.

The specialist online shops have a huge range and although they charge for postage, there is usually a few % cashback available from Quidco or TopCashBack. Amazon also have a lot available.

Couple of recent buys - Arran 10. Currently £33 on Master of Malt or £35 at Tyndrum Whisky in a nice gift pack with a couple of glasses.
Deanston 12 - about £35 on Amazon at the moment. Glenfarclas 15 on there for a tenner more than that.
For a peated option currently loving Ledaig 10 year old.

I know the convention. It's still the same thing.

Doesn’t matter, don’t care.
While I’m sure there are similar bargains to be had at different places, tbh I can’t be arsed to go traipsing around a bunch of supermarkets to find something that’s maybe a quid cheaper than everywhere else. If I can find Woodfords Reserve Bourbon anywhere handy, and maybe Buffalo Trace, or any other proper bourbons, for a reasonable price, that’ll keep me going through Christmas and well into the new year, especially as it looks like I might have to replace my central heating/hot water boiler, ‘cos something isn’t right with mine. ☹️

Last week I bought my bro one of his usual Xmas present bundles, a bottle of Balvenie Caribbean cask, medjool dates and 85% cocoa dark chocolate, a good combination.

I’ve since drank the whisky, ate the medjool dates and scoffed the chocolate 🤷‍♂️.

Ho hum.......I do this every year so I dunno why I’m surprised at my utter ineptitude at self denial

I grabbed a bottle of Bowmore 12 for £25 in the Tesco promo, which is pretty cheap.

Also I have been stocking up from the Drop Store . com, they have some decent promotions and a wide variety of spirits. Some stuff I've had over lockdown v1:
Pogues Irish whiskey is surprisingly good for a gimicky brand, came with a bottle of Buffalo Trace bourbon for £30, so super bargain.
Crabbies 8yo single malt is terrible and best avoided
American Eagle 12yo bourbon, not any better than Buffalo Trace really, better off going for Makers or Woodford

Going off topic i got a 3 pack of rums (Rum Sixty Six) a white rum, a 6yo and a 12yo. The white is good for mixing with cokes or in cocktails, the 6 is great with ginger ale and the 12 is perfectly drinkable on its own.

I heard Waitrose is doing some decent deals ATM too, so might be worth checking that out if you have one near by.

As an alternative to Whisky (I have a few different bottles already), can I get a recommendation for something a bit different, like Bourbon or even a Brandy for Whisky? I have some spiced rum and he obligatory Port and some Gin, but fancied something a bit different to add to the cupboard.

Makers Mark, Makers 46, Woodford Reserve are all good bourbons for drinking neat.
I prefer Makers to Woodford, but always have a bottle of each in stock.

A leftfield suggestion is Patron Tequila, the Patron Café is a tequila-based coffee liqueur and is wonderful for end of the night tipple

Second Makers Mark, a lovely bourbon. Have you looked at Bulleit, either bourbon or rye? Both very nice.

This is going to be my second Xmas without whisky. I miss that amber nectar after Xmas dinner while presents get opened

Tried a bottle of Angel's Envy on the back of this thread, and agree, it is bloody lovely. Trying to get hold of another now, which is proving rather difficult..

Gentleman Jack is much nicer than regular Jack Daniels - that's been on offer in Saino's recently.

Bulleit Bourbon is good but I much prefer the Rye version which tends not to appear in supermarkets quite so much.

My go-to Scottish whisky is Aberlour (any age), great Speyside whisky, the 12 turns up on offer every once in a while.
Non-Scottish favourite is Penderyn (Welsh) which is often on offer too.

I don't know Gentleman Jack but Jack Daniels Single Barrel is £25 in Sainsbury and ASDA and well worth it IMO. (Gone back up again on Amazon and elsewhere)
