MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Our 14 month old has managed to open our outward opening 1st floor window, which is hinged at the top
The window cannot be locked.
Would like to childproof with something that doesn't need to be screwed into the woodwork , as it is a rented house.
Any ideas?
Thanks
take the handle off until you have it sorted - not worth risking it
Ah but the handle is also the latch..
Are they upvc or wood frames? If it's wood, it's pretty easy to make good if you add in a security lock and need to take it off before you move out. I'd run it past your landlord anyway, he probably wouldn't have a problem with you doing it. Even if he does, I'd do it anyway and tell hm you can't take the risk.

Ask your landlord to sort it. If they refuse, ask if they'll sign a waiver accepting responsibility should your child fall from the unsafe window.
Google 'window restrictor'
There are loads of retro fit options
Could you zip tie it?
The wife has vetoed zip ties .
Keeping the door to that room shut gor now , but I know that is risky .
Cheers for the tips
Will speak to the landlord
The wife has vetoed zip ties .
That's an unreasonable veto. Where safety is concerned I would compromise and use a zips tie until a better solution is found

"Have you a better idea?"
No.
"Do you want our child to plummet to her death?"
No.
"Zip ties, then?"
ask your landlord/agent.
I am pretty sure they won't want any accidents. Well ours wouldn't give a crap but any decent one would.
