had a chest infection for just over a week. pretty horrible hacking cough, bloody phlegm. pretty wiped out.
finaly went to the doctors on thursday as my heart rate had risen to 119bpm and didnt drop for 2 days.
doctor did a ecg in the surgery to confirm. it was still 119bpm. blood pressure was fine though so he was not to concerned.
prescribed me with some anti biotics and put me back on beta blockers as a precaution to stop it getting higher.
this was thursday. still running at 117bpm now. i feel ok, chest is getting better.

will my heart rate start to drop as my chest gets better ?
how long is it safe to be running a high heart rate ? my normal resting is in the low 60's.

Clearly a doctor is the best person to advise and they seem to have done what they should in the short term. If you remain concerned then ring 112.

Had the same. Something nasty about. 2 weeks you'll be ok. Raised BP etc as you describe.

Raised HR is pretty normal when fighting an infection, your body is doing a lot of extra work and hence your HR is up. Normally the HR will rise before you feel ill and only fall back to normal after all the symptoms have passed (as it's still doing shit beneath the surface).

I'm not your doctor, but I'd suggest getting an ECG done, @ton.

Heart rates that are very fixed (E.g. at 118 +/-1 bpm) are very suspicious for re-entrant arrhythmia. Given your history (that I've read about on here) I think you have an A-tach/flutter. If you can bank an ECG that would be helpful even if it settles down of its own volition.

EDIT: Also given your cardiac history, I would advise against scouring internet forums for health advice (my excellent suggestions notwithstanding :D).
