They’re looking for applicants for this year’s series.  Anyone interested?

Not a chance. It's clearly rigged.

They "replicate some powers of the state" which seems to include breaking into your house when you're not there and rifling through your stuff and , I suspect, getting grassed up by your cameraman if dramatic tension requires.

Me. My plan is to be a crown green bowls player. I live on pies and be totally invisible. Depending on the pies.

It's clear they have a GPS tracker active on the cameraman or even the fugitives so they can sit within a couple of miles of them in their cars and devise ways to roll them up if the quota is a bit low that week.

I still remember the first series where a couple who decided to just take to a fixed caravan in Norfolk for the month were spotted 'by pure coincidence' by a team who were apparently following leads on a different person...

I'm sure it would be easy to just spend the month bikepacking around the north of England, but the producers would contrive some way to mysteriously intercept you.

I applied last year.

Did you you hear anything? As said above it looks rigged, otherwise  I think I’d stand a fair chance - it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest not to be able to contact my wife and family for that long. And I’m sure I could get great tips off here 😀

I like the way they put out messages on radio/social media so everyone can tip them off about the people they've seen being followed around by a camera crew. Very realistic.

It seems they have a few “rules” to make it easier to catch. Like you have to contact family at some time, and have to take out several small amounts of money and cannot set up a big cache of stuff prior to starting. It would be pretty easy if you could hide a massive stash of dried food, fuel and money etc in the woods somewhere before you started.

I still enjoy watching it though despite how it’s rigged.

My ploy would just be to spend the month sailing around the west coast of Scotland, anchoring willy-nilly depending on the winds. I dare say quite difficult to intercept and would lead to pretty poor telly.

Quite a lot of "rules", not just those basic ones about regular ATM visits, phone home etc.

There was quite a good write up by one of the UK contestants. Lots of interference by producers (which if you've ever done anything with TV crews is normal). All kinds of things like setting up Go-pro at ATM etc. to capture the footage that they can pretend is the CCTV in the ATM. Remember it's a TV entertainment show, and the TV entertainment bit comes first. The challenge part is merely a means of getting some kind of entertainment on the telly.

Forget where the write up was. Prolly on digitalspy forum or somewhere.

This last series was the most rigged ever. And the most nonsense. And far too much overdubbed wheelspin noises every single time the silver volvo accelerated away.

Didn't quite get the social media bit. It's filmed in summer then shown as if it were in real time in winter.
