MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I need to put a CCTV system in place at a large shed/outbuilding. It only needs one camera really, maybe 2, just enough to cover who or whatever enters the yard in front of the unit . I have access to mains within the unit but out of range for wi fi. I know nothing about CCTV so I'd like a bit of advice as to what to go for (manufacturers/type of setup etc) . I suppose it won't be something I can have remote access to unless I'm in range of the unit so maybe easy indexing or viewing via phone would be good. Thanks in advance .
I've got a canary in a similar setup. Its mains powered then plugs into the home network via a tplink plug over the same mains connection (outbuilding is on same fusebox as house). Seems to work ok. I can access it from my phone from anywhere in the world and it sends me a message if it detects any movement.
If you can link it to your home network as above, have a look at the Netgear Arlo stuff. You get seven days cloud back-up without having to pay for a subscription plan plus the option to back up via USB as a, erm, back-up. Basic plan covers up to five cameras and there are indoor and outdoor camera versions. All wireless and rechargeable, triggered by movement. You also get alerts to your smartphone / e-mail.
I guess the issue you have is that if you can't record connect via wi-fi then your footage is potentially vulnerable if someone does break in, plus you don't get notification if something happens. There is an Arlo cam that connects via a mobile network, so that might work. Don't know if that's an option in the UK though.
A mate has the Canary and the Arlo stuff seems to have similar features in a lot of ways, but scores points by not needing a subscription plan to use most of the features.
Ok thanks . Will look into that . Not sure if I can hook up to my network though but maybe i could find a way .
