How do they get out of a barrier controlled car park that uses ANPR?
In Ireland we use a numbering system specific to each county. So at the moment we are way ahead of 3D and 4D. For country Dublin, the current registration is now 262Dxxxxx. Where 26 is the year, 2 is the second half of the year and xxxxx is the unique registration number.

I’m not entirely sure, but I think some carparks have the cameras set up so they’re looking at the rear of the car as they head towards the barrier. In any case, the majority give you a ticket, so if the camera doesn’t see a front plate, all you have to do is put the ticket into the slot. The two car parks I use in Bristol give you a ticket, if the barrier doesn’t rise as you approach, then you have the ticket to hand to prove you’ve paid.
ANPR is a totally flawed system. My old van some how I managed to miss the MoT date and drove it for 6 months without (I was used to MoT and tax being same month). In the borders I can see how it might be missed but I drove to the Alps and back as well as Exeter and Sutton Coldfield. Lots of ANPR catching opportunities but not once picked up. I assumed it would be an easy automated fine.
Drove into London last night for a gig with the lad..
BMW M-sport (not proper M)... blacked out windows ALL ROUND, nicely polished, driver texting obvs....no front number plate!
