Thinking of a career change, as I have stagnated in my current role, and if I leave I'd rather try something different than work in the same industry.
The problem I have is not really knowing what I want to do. Has anyone seen a career advisor? Was it worth the money? Did you act on their advice?
Interested in any experience you might have.

Yes; I went through the same dissatisfaction about 15 years ago so I trundled off to see a "careers advisor". I realised quite soon that these people are social parasites in the same vein as estate agents, double-glazing and PV panel salesmen and telephone cold-callers. All that happened was that I was "interviewed" and told that my experience and abiliy were worth far more than I was being paid and once the flattery had been delivered, I was invited to pay £1000 for the privilege of access to the advisor's library of trade directories and lists of employers, which I could use to write off letters of application. What a massive, disgraceful scam.
When I went to see my boss and told him what the "advisor" had told me I should be earning he retorted: "I don't know where you got that but I've a fair idea....!"
Do you think that's the norm, or were you unlucky?
Well what do you expect them to tell you? That actually you are doing just fine in your present job and you'd be foolish to try to change careers?
Go and see a couple but leave your cheque book and bank card at home.
