Glad I'm not the only one searching for people doing crazy things with chimneys after this weeks events!

I was fine until he started dangling one handed at the end.

Why does watching such elevated antics affect one's nads?

I too have bag reactions.

Mind you, mine fizz when I sneeze.

Sorry. As you were.

If I found myself at the top of that chimney I'd be lying flat my eyes closed gripping with everything I had and crying until I simply died!

I never know whether they possess something I lack or I possess something they lack.

No sweaty palms ..and I know this sounds totally wrong ..but part of me wanted them both to hurt themselves for being total dicks ( but not to die obviously )..just enough of an injury to make them think twice about doing something so totally irresponsible again ..

The stuff at the top doesn't bother me too much, it is pretty much within their control, but the descent relying on that old in-situ ironwork is a bit dodgy.

All these kids mucking around, what about doing a decent days work while you're at it - like presenting Blue Peter...

I'm not sure buggering about at the top of 256m chimneys and trivial injuries really go hand in hand...

When he was looking down in to the chimney the feeling of being pulled in was huge and I'm only watching it on a a phone.

It looked like you could get a  splinter from some of that wood at the top. And up there without a coat on, well a nasty chill is almost inevitable. That should give them something to think about

And yet you cycle... Off-road too.

Dangerous

I really don't think you can draw a direct comparison between cycling offroad and buggering about on a unicycle at the top of a 250m+ high chimney..😁
edit ..besides which I very rarely ride on the road ..which in my book is even more dangerous

Cheers for that Binners, was trying to remember the name of that show.

And I still feel sick watching it.

Heights don’t particularly bother me so watching stuff like that certainly doesn’t, I’m not sure I’d scale that though.

Having watched them on channel 4, they are not reckless and take it very seriously.

Far from reckless. They know exactly what they are doing and know what they are capable of.

But (imho) in much the same parallel as we mountain bikers face - one day it won't go the way you planned. We might fall off and twist an ankle, or hit a tree, or god forbid cause some nasty damage to ourselves.

They on the other hand, will start at our worst injury and more likely end up with some poor sod having to scrape them off a concrete floor.

I don’t find the heights an issue, given what I do for a living but I find their lack of concern about the consequences of a slip or fumble at those sort of heights regrettable. It’s always perfectly safe right up to the point it isn’t...

The thing is though,

You can be absolutely at the top of your game with stuff like this and something outside of your control gets in the way. A sudden freak gust of wind, a brick coming loose, a rotten plank snapping, and it's game over.

I don't do heights. I didn't realise the Kinder bridleway was near the Kinder Upfall where some poor lass died recently - I was too busy slogging up the hill to spot where it was. Wouldn't have gone near it either.

Hmm. But this is a MTB forum with loads of rad dudes used to being gnarly. If you went on knitting discussions.com they would probably suggest that cycling is totally unacceptable. Where do you draw the line...

I've jumped out of an airoplane, I've soloed a hundred rock climbs in a day, I've hucked cornices on skis and board, I've kayaked proper scary rivers deeeep in gorges in Norway, I've climbed various icefalls, pulled bodies off climbs etc etc.

And yet the closest I've come to buying the farm was a simple slip biking at 3 mph in Borowdale that put the end of my handlebar into my femoral artery.

So, therefore..

Um, where was I?

Drunk a lot of wine tonight. No idea WTF my point is.

Oh yes. Baselines. That was it. Whose definition of reasonable do you use?
