I've got a kindle fire hd and have started reading again.
Can you recommend any decent books? I like a good comedy and a good thriller.
Thanks in advance.
The Passage, by Justin Kronin.
The girl who played with fire trilogy, the hunger games trilogy. Oh and you can get all the Sherlock Holmes books for free.
Last Chance to See.
Apache by Ed Macey if it's on there. Not a comedy or a thriller but a good read.
If you like a good comedy and a good thriller, I'd suggest making a start on Christopher Brookmyre's back catalogue.
2nd Apache, & if you like that, 'Sniper One' is unputdownable. Not 'thrillers' but still thrilling.

The one in the link and subsequent ones are very good, funny with enough interest too
2nd "The Passage", very good. Also the "Hunger Games" trilogy is worth a read.
My recommendation? "King Rat" by China Mieville. Real page turner.
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovich. It's a comedy, thriller, horror, fantasy with a bit of 'historic' added for good measure.
Ticks quite a few boxes, that one does.
Pinkster. See my link, I should have put the name rather than the link.
The whole series up to now is really good. Another one coming out in June
'The Hungry Caterpillar'
You'll never guess how it ends!
I enjoyed 8 lives down by chris hunter. EOD type in eye-rack. Very exciting. Sniper 1 was good too. Is soldier I on there? Fantastic book. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Soldier-S-A-S-Michael-Paul-Kennedy/dp/0747507503
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's a funny take on the Omen
+1 for Good Omens. Great book.
If you grew up in the era of arcade games then I can't recommend 'Ready Player One' highly enough. A little difficult to pin down the genre exactly but It's sort of a sci fi thriller with some decent comedy moments.
fear and loathing
confederacy of dunces
Douglas Adams long Dark Teatime of the Soul
Or the other one - Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
I like Reamde (not a typo) by Neal Stephenson for a thriller of the moment.
If you follow the advice of Cougar and enjoy Chris Brookmyres books ( and if you read them you will) then you may Los enjoy Carl Hiiasen as well.
I like Iain Banks books too.
Just gobbled down the 4th book by Belinda Bauer - off-beat thrillers.

I can recommend the book given to my seven year old daughter by her school, Deenie by Judy Blume. It has got scoliosis, periods, erections,, masturbation. All great reading and perfect for her age 🙄 👿
Flashman by George McDonald Fraser - excellent Victorian era adventures with comic twists
The Dying Earth and/or The Demon Princes by Jack Vance
Bruk read my mind!
+ 1 on all his choices. And more relevant jus finished the secret race, which was pretty good, in a depressing sort of way!
Robert Rankin - start with The Antipope, the first book of the rather misnamed Brentford Trilogy.
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovich. It's a comedy, thriller, horror, fantasy with a bit of 'historic' added for good measure.
This.
Plus the sequels; Moon Over Soho and Whispers Underground
But my favourite book is still Lonesome Dove.
Iain Pears - An instance at the fingerpost.
Stieg Larsson trilogy great as is The Hunger Games except 3rd book was a tad disappointing. First 2 were blinding!!
Just finished the Life of Pi,
I quite enjoyed it especially as I bought it for 20p as a kindle special.
I love Michael Marshall Smith's "One of Us". His "Only Forwards" and "Spares" are worth a read too.
John Case - The First Horseman .. can't remember his other cracking book!
Yup Life of Pi is good.
+1 for Good Omens
The Crow Road is an amazing book, read it a few times now. Any book that starts "It was the day my Grandmother exploded" has got to be a good read 😀bruk - Member
I like Iain Banks books too.
Complicity is also a favourite Iain Banks book of mine, but its a bit different to The Crow Road.
