Currently on Prime.

A Lonely Place to Die.

IMDB synopsis:

A group of five mountaineers are hiking and climbing in the Scottish Highlands when they discover a young Serbian girl buried in a small chamber in the wilderness. They become caught up in a terrifying game of cat and mouse with the kidnappers as they try to get the girl to safety

Bloody hell this really is a nail biter. From beginning to end my feet were twitching like a nervous front seat passenger.

I watched that a couple of years back and it was good, I enjoyed it, I give it a thumbs up and you can take that to the bank.

Unfortunately it suffered from the bad advertising that plagues so many films. It gave the impression that the main character was stuck on a ledge or up a mountain and was being sadistically hunted or similar. They seem to be doing this with films where whoever is cutting the trailer together either gives you the impression you're seeing something else entirely or worse, give away the entire plot.......case in point (and not a word about ruining the film for you, it's not worth more time than it takes watching the trailer):

Complete dog-dirt

Just watched and enjoyed thanks. Must say they were crap shots but on the fancy rifles that silver scope is a £40 special I have on an old air rifle😊

Was alright - some of the climbing stuff irritated the hell out of me, as it always does! Especially as it started off looking like they were getting the ropework right.

The ease with which Mission Impossible villain and his mate tracked them down was also a bit much.

Agreed. Nice rifles but a Richter Optik scope on a .308. Hee hee.

Yeah was alright like.

Perhaps not ideal for use by the Scottish tourist board.

On a similar vein...

Don't watch the trailer though it kinda spoils it...

Calibre is a really good, gritty, paranoid drama film I thought, two city boys go to hunt a deer staying in a remote Scottish village but it goes badly, badly wrong.

People will be disappointed if they go expecting that kind of street festival.

Also no sign of midges. No idea how they managed that in post-production.

Topless ladies in a village festival. I thought that only happened in Provence.

Hats off for simulating the recoil when letting off a shot. Most films portray recoilless .458 Win Mags, 9mm handguns and 12 bore shotguns.

The only film I can recall where the climbing action was realistic was Five Days One Summer.

But it wasn't a climbing documentary endorsed by the BMC. It was a fictional film.

Yep, enjoyed that.

Or Cliffhanger?

It was more disappointment because it was made by a company calling itself 'Eigerwand Films', and the first few minutes were spot on. Then it all went to shite!

Or Cliffhanger?

Vertical Limit is the go-to for mountaineering accuracy.

Calibre is another very uncomfortable film to watch. Enjoyed it very much.

Watched this last night based on this recommendation. It was ok. Started of a bit wooden. Then the action scenes were really well done, then I lost interest once they got back to town. Still don't know who the first two guys were in the cam gear or what they had to do with the story.

5/10
