I need some new boots since my current ones are nearly worn out. They're Sorel Ankeny's, and I've been less than impressed with the quality. However, for looks/comfort, they're perfect.

Can anyone recommend something similar? I don't want the typical rugged/outdoorsy/merrell style things: I'm after something that looks reasonably smart, and is ideally fairly water resistant.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at Dubarry. I have some Kerry (IIRC) ones that are wearing very well, and I think they do lace up boots as well as Chelsea style ones.

Have a look at Geox shoes. They do some great boots, I use them for work and have found them durable and water resistant. I have always got them massively discounted through Tk Maxx both in store and on line.

I've had Goretex Timberland's before, but I've a pair of Rockport "Rugged" waterproof chukka's at the moment. Smart enough with chinos and a shirt, happy to be out in the mud of school grounds or local woods for work. More comfy than the Timberland's too.

Love my Blundstones. Can get a variety of styles and seem to last me forever.

De Walt Sharpsburg with the added protection of steel toe caps, metal plate on sole and laces that have lasted a month with no fraying yet , pretty good for workbooks and comfy from day one

Got a pair of these Swain boots last month, very comfortable and look good with jeans and chinos.

Any leather boot that's decently polished/treated will be fairly water resistant, that's kind of why they were invented.

Another vote for Palladium.

Light, comfy, waterproof options, loads of colours, smart enough for most places but rugged enough for all but proper hiking.

How is everyone finding the sizing on palladiums? I’ve got 3 pairs of canvas and some waterproof leather ones.
I’m normally a 7 and the canvas 7s are too small whereas the leather ones in 7 fit great. The 7.5 and 8 canvas seem to be the same size.

Thanks all.

The Palladiums look to be the sort of thing I'm after. Before I order a pair, can anyone comment on the sizing?

Any other recommendations for a pair of boots? The Palladiums I bought less than two months ago have already come apart at the sole - would not recommend (if you're in the market).
