I'm heading to Venice with mrs iolo for 4 nights over the New Years Eve festivities.
Can anyone recommend a nice but not too expensive hotel?
Many thanks.

Don't bother with a hotel. Depends what you term as not too expensive but we stayed in one of these self catering apartments when we went and thought they were fantastic value for money.

Fantastic location on Guidecca and because it is part of the same building as the Sticky Hilton you get complimentary boat rides from the hotel which drops you off in St Marks square in 5 minutes.

We stayed in the Ca' Pozzo inn when we went a few years back, not too far from the train station and not too big. Really liked it.

Can highly recommend Hotel Moresco. I wouldn't say its cheap, but not as exspensive as a lot of others. Great service, lovely breakfasts, free WiFi and close to the Vaporetto stop. Their bar was probably the cheapest place to get a drink.

Good reviews on TripAdvisor which is how we found it
