I am planning on driving down to the Alps in June for a couple of weeks with my tent. Is it likely to be busy and need booking into campsites or is it worth just driving down and taking it as it comes?

Unlikely to be busy. The only thing to check is when the camp sites open - we went at the beginning of June a few years ago, and quite a few of the sites were still closed.

mrst

Take a snow shovel.

(The campsite should be clear but a lot of the trails above 1600m could still be snowy in places)

Still snowy as late as June?

Check the lifts, they're shut a lot

Some of the passes in the Tarentaise do not open until mid-June and a lot of the North Facing slopes will still be covered in snow. Down in the valleys though will be clear with temperatures you would expect at that time of year.

Nice campsites book up by July / August - just depends where you are exactly. All the nice shady pitches go first and you can end up being cooked alive by lunchtime if you don't book ahead....

Looks like I need to have a rethink and do some proper planning rather than taking my chances.
