Will be in the area for Steddfod for a few days and their campsite is fully booked. Wishlist is:

Basic
Mountain/trails (run and or bike)
Nr pub/town
Kid friendly
Walk/bike/taxi distance from the maes at Boduan

Never been out that far before. Don't like the idea of going in Aug but it is what it is. We're driving up slowly from Spain over a few days so would prefer not having an arrival date set in stone (I'm the only driver). Any campsites come to mind?

Jeepers..... it's in Boduan?!!!  It's going to be bonkers busy in the middle of August!

TBH there's little mountain biking on the Llyn whatsoever - running should be OK but, again, busy roads.  You might be best off looking around Nefyn as it's a 15 minute drive from Abersoch (which will be rammed anyway).

Not much help I know, sorry.

There’s a campsite at the crossroads (roundabout) by the pub in Boduan. Never stayed there but I’ve stayed in the owner’s holiday cottage next door and it’s a good location and precisely where you want. Worth checking out I’d have thought.

Edit: this one. http://twnti.com/

Yeah I just asked my sis who’s stayed out there a couple of times and she just laughed at the idea of rocking up in August with nowt reserved.

Was looking at Nefyn, looks to be some decent trail running round there.. Yr Eifl too.

Family doesn’t share my enthusiasm for the Cymraeg festivities so I need to keep an eye out for other stuff even if it’s just walks and pubs

Sorry can't help with specific recommendations as we always headed further south in Eryri-Snowdonia because it gets so busy, particularly in school summer hols.

The Lleyn peninsula doesn't have many mountains, it's mostly rolling farmland. So you can either have close to Boduan or somewhere a fair drive away where you can have mountains and/or a big enough settlement for 'other' activities. The organisers said there would be extra public transport put on but I can't see any details and I can't imagine there are enough taxis in the area, so you may have to accept driving to the Eisteddfod car park. There is a coastal path around all of Wales now and north coast of the Lleyn is lovely, quite a lot of campsites there that are walkable to Nefyn or Tudweilog if they are available.

Cheers, I'll see if I can find out about the transport. Nefyn is only 20m away by bike, but dunno what the roads are like - my 10yo isn't used to riding in traffic
