Campervan Prices - Gonna come down right?

There was a £2k Renault Traffic based camper that popped up on my Facebook feed. Cheaper than a week in a cottage in Cornwall. Probably not in a1 condition but you don't have to buy a VW.

I find the most expensive part campervaning is campsites. The prices have gone through the roof.

A grass pitch with no electric for 2 adults and a child is around £30 to £40 quid and the showers are sometimes extra.

I don't think it's a cheap option it once was. You do it because you love it, waking up somewhere new.

Mate has just sold his big Hymer MH for more than he paid for it in the pandemic.

Bloody hell where’s that? I’ve only paid that much with electric and usually hard standing.

Edit: Just checked one of the sites we used last year in Cornwall. None electric on grass £46 per night with 2 dogs. I’m thankful I work shifts and can make the most of off peak. That said for 2 people to have a little holiday that’s still not too bad.

Just paid £9 per adult per night in a lovely site near Bala, no elec hookup.

Our ancient petrol £5k 1991 Talbot Express Harmony still evading the scrapyard despite our best efforts to kill it over the last 6.5 years and 32k miles.

Bought it in Dec 2016 when the boys were 6 and 9, they no longer physically fit in the bunk so we now leave them behind with Grandparents/wifi...

Been on adventures all over the UK, France and Northern Spain including the Pyrenees, Alps and twice over the Col de l'Iseran with four bikes on the back..

Repairs in the past have separately involved a saw and hammer and it's currently got bits held together with cable ties but it has never yet left us stranded, not least as it's a very basic points and carburettor petrol lump, very little to fail.. common 'consumable' parts still seem available.

Will also accommodate sheets of 8x4 ply, the floor is flat from the rear door to the engine firewall.

It now looks a bit tatty and needs cosmetic rust tackling and a gearbox overhaul is imminent. Not being compliant with any city centre emissions regulations is still to fully kick in. Our view is you can pay for a lot of ULEZ charges and refurbishment and welding for the cost of the euro 6 equivalent. Finding a bodywork specialist willing to take on the work is proving the biggest challenge..

Hopefully haven't jinxed it as we've got to drive back from the North West to London this afternoon.. 😀

Loads of motorhomes on driveways near me, just googled the neighbours, 100k and it never seems to move. Maybe it's guest accom. Hotels have gone up alot so you only need to stay in a mh a couple of weeks it's paid for itself.

I wouldn't mind one but I like city breaks and a mh isn't going to help.

This. It cost me more to park my van on a patch of grass with a 50m walk to some scruffy toilets for a week than it does to rent my 3 bed bungalow for a week. Bonkers!

You do it because you love it, waking up somewhere new.

But also very much this!

There's a T6 on the local to work garage forecourt that is £5 under £55k. That's a ridiculous price.

A dealer near us had a 2012 T5 Devon high top up for £63k with 85k miles and a fair bit of wear - and someone has bought it...

Problem and value wise as see it is...

I have a 2007 T5 bought as a Panel Van in 2009, converted it to a camper myself bar the pop top roof, van was 2 years old from a VW Dealer, conversion cost me 8k so 18k total which was 3k less than my annual salary, now the same process would be twice my annual salary, go figure...that simply does not add up.

We have to accept the market for who campervans are aimed at has changed, normal folk like me are not included, much like everything else to be honest, the average person is having everything put out of reach.

campsite owners see 100k vans everywhere and put the price up to stay on the sites further pushing out average folk who's holiday USED to be a cheap camping Holiday.

Our country is full of very wealthy people, they have no idea they are unfortunately which is tragic and compounds the issue.

Hopefully we have plenty life left in ours....
