Camera doorbells without contrat

I'm not jelling with the reolink doorbell, you can't have it recording to the home hub whilst still working with Alexa, it's one or the other. The outdoor camera also only records for 15s when motion is detected, even if there is still motion. Loads of Reddit people having the same issue for over a year with no solution other than continuous recording.

Eufy owner here. I also didn't fancy paying a monthly fee for a doorbell!

Got the homebase thingie with it which does storage and chime, but the one of the most useful things is that it works with Alexa and all those units announce someone's at the door too, which is very handy when Mrs M is working in the shed and the rest of us are out.

Other than that it's got 2 cameras so you can keep an eye on the pot plants by the door or whatever bike bits the postie's left on the doorstep. Only annoyance is the charging port is micro-USB but they will probably have changed that by now, other than that it's just done it's job like it's supposed to.

well im getting closer to ordering a blink set up.  i can work out that id need a video doorbell, and say 2 outdoor cameras (with sync module 2 for recording to usb).  what i cant find is what would actually make a noise if the doorbells pressed.  can anyone help me out on this please?  i see them for sale at argos, screwfix and amazon, but i see no 'chimes'.

thanks

I have my blink doorbell ring through our Echoes and through the phone app. Get an echo with the screen and you can see them too. On a prime day or black Friday deal I got the echoes for something daft like a fiver each.

wowzers, can only see them for £45.  ill keep a look out see if i can find them a lot cheaper over the next week or so.  certainly not worth £45 to me to see who's at the door.  all i wants a bluddy chime!!  😀

thread resurrection before the years up.

my mum (late 80's) recently had a fall and broke wrist and kneecap.  couple of weeks in hospital but now back in her flat, care plan in place.  shes never going to get to the door tho if someone rings the bell or knocks, so shes just after something basic thatll pop up on her phone/macbook, she can see who it is and either ignore, give instruction to come in, or leave parcel at door etc....

would need to be wireless and budget is £50, although if thats unrealistic for what she needs then i'll advise her to pay whatever the cost for the right one.

EDIT:  she wouldnt be bothered about storage, its just a simple 'who's there, come in, im busy, see you later, leave package on doorstep' 2 way conversation, then 'as you were'.

We've got a ring doorbell one, for the price of a couple of beers in a city wetherspoons each month we get 180 days of cloud storage, had it like 5 years or something now.

Had no issues with it, well, I say that. When we first got it I had some issues with connectivity in regards to connecting to it whilst out the house and general delays. Turns out thanks to my old sky router it was being forced onto the 2.4ghz network which isn't ideal for smaller devices like these, good for penetration through walls but not good for speed. I had to put some rules on my router to force the MAC address for it to connect to the 5.8ghz channel and was fine after that.

Have since replaced the router and didn't have to do the same again it auto connects on 5.8ghz and I've had no issues. Have it linked to a chime downstairs and an alexa upstairs so when someone presses the doorbell probably half a second later the chime chimes and alexa pipes up "There is somebody at your front door" been a few times I've been out and about and got the notification on my phone and connected to it to tell them we're out and a few delivery drivers have remarked "oo that was quick" so I'm assuming the issues I had when we first got it happen to other people too

helped the missus sort out a blink doorbell and external camera, absolute steal when on sale at amazon, if required, by adding the sync module 2, you can enable local recording to usb

ooh, interesting, we've got one 10 minutes away so i'll nip down tomorrow.

chatgpt advises a Tapo D210 for my wishlist criteria, £45 from Argos, but i'll try Aldi first.

thanks

Oh, I need a new doorbell, I wasn't necessarily after a camera one but the £17 from Aldi is certainly worth a look! Thanks 🙂

I want a doorbell that rings indoors, allows me to see who is there from my phone,

why?  Are we not too sedentary as it is? Are we not too screen focused already?  Is this not like asking Alexa if it’s raining rather than look out the window?

Just a thought, and this might be a bit of a stretch, but what if you happen to be out in the garden in the middle of doing something; being able to see who’s there means being able to go to the door to sign for a parcel, or ignore the Jehovah’s Witnesses, or the people canvassing for new double glazing or whatever.

I “thought” I wanted a video doorbell as I have spms and it can take me quite a while to get to the front door, it’s a massive 10ft away from my recliner in my room but I can speak loud/shout loud enough for anyone at the door to hear. Every delivery driver knows to place parcels inside my door anyway as I have a note permanently stuck on door.

So video doorbells are probably very handy for disabled/folk that are ill…….or just bone idle/lazy f***ers

On the initial setup and app download/allowing notifications on iPhone etc I realised it’s not for me, I can’t be arsed/don’t have any notifications that pop up on my iPhone except for messages from mum/bro/best mate + her son

Yup, it's very handy. We use the blink setup, two motion sensing cameras and two video doorbells (two front doors, one either side of the house) on several occasions I've been in the garage which is separate from the house and one of the doorbells has wrung, without the blink setup I'd have been none the wiser.
Total cost so far £29.99 each for the video doorbells and sync 2 module, £23.99 for two motion sensing cameras and £12 for a usb stick. No subscription required and local storage.
Mrs f uses echo dots and an echo show in the kitchen, they all tell you which doorbell has been pressed and the echo show displays the live view from the doorbell.

@northshoreniall how did you get on?  my mum insisted on paying more (£45) for the TP Link D210 and ive just had the most frustrating afternoon ever trying to set the b@st@rd thing up.  all links up ok and can speak to her from outside but her voice wont come through the doorbell.  chatgpt suggests its a firmware issue and i need to contact them to ask them to push an update though but no chance.  just tried my best to talk to someone but just fobbed off by a bot so they can stick it.  i'll return it tomorrow, total waste of my afternoon.

@sadexpunk - seems ok, not had any real callers but testing seems fine. Has a plug in sounder for the house, just uses USB plug can move around the house.

For the money, can't complain really.

Got one of those Reka things, seems fine. Video quality is ropey but I'm not recording anything and only want it for notifications and maybe intercom. Poor weather sealing though and we are coastal so I expect the battery terminals will get eaten by salt.

tried to get one from Aldi but none left, apparently the flew off the shelf when they came in.

i also need to find one where she can disable the motion sensor as theres always people passing her flat in the corridor, so it just needs to be a simple notification when button pressed, quick chat and end call.
