[Closed] Calling STW Fifers - Coaltown of Balgonie/Markinch

I'm looking for a house in the new year and a couple have tweaked interest in these areas. I've lived in Fife for 11 years and lived in Glenrothes for 3 of those years so I roughly know the area and that it would suit my needs.

Anyone live/lived in the above areas? Whats the biking (MTB and Road) from the doorstep? Any major trouble or parts that I should stay away from?

Cheers

don't know about the areas but Strava is quite good at showing where segments are, at least!

I'm next door in Clackmannanshire, so don't know local trails, but you wouldn't be far from the Fife Coastal path. Not exactly gnarly, but fun and surprisingly 'interesting' on the beach sections. You would need to figure out a return route / shuttle.

EDIT - Sorry had read it as though you were renting for a New Year holiday, not moving. Doh!

I spent a year in Markinch as a bairn forty years ago, it was fine back then.

There is a ton of road and mountain riding around there. You need to contact the Mukyriderz http://www.mukyriderz.co.uk/ or the Leslie Bike Shop http://excoboard.com/LESLIE_BIKE_SHOP clubs for local routes.

I did hear an LBS racer got lost and was asking for directions from pits at an Edinburgh Halloween CX race, maybe try the Mukyz first.

Thanks McMoonter, went to see a house in Coaltown of Balgonie today but it didn't tick all the boxes. Will definitely check out MukyRiderz. I need to nip into Leslie bike shop soon as well as I've not been in since they opened the new shop at Bankhead.
