A bike ride away from Waterloo, which is pretty good.

Great place to be and easy to get out of to the rest of Europe. What do you want to know? Very expat friendly if you are moving

Quick trip on Eurostar. Except when it's broken (often), or French are on strike (often).

Belgian beer.

Some really tiny statue of a kid having a piss.

That's about it.

if you're thinking of moving, check which bit of Brussels you are moving to and what language they speak

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communities,_regions_and_language_areas_of_Belgium

I know a guy who lived there for a while and really enjoyed it

[edit] scrub all that - great for a weekend, do some googling and find a cyclocross race on the weekend you're there, proper authentic belgie, you get pissed whilst watching a bike race ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm Belgian
If you mean, where not to go because of safety concerns.

it's just a city, no nogo zones as far as i'm concerned.
kuregem is a little bit dodgy but nothing to see there anyway

if you want to ride the villo bikes (boris bikes). good to know they wheigh a ton, have shitty brakes and bxl is quite hilly

I was there last week - It's decent - Kwak beer is the nuts. The inevitable late night kebabs are Greek not Turkish and very good. The statue of the little boy peeing really is the smallest tourist attraction in the world. The city is on two levels and pretty hilly, trams are too quiet when you're drunk and that's easy as Belgians know how to make strong quaffable beer well, especially Kwak. There are loads and loads of galleries and places for buying art seem to be everywhere. I really liked it - Did I mention the Kwak? Good beer. Don't try fruit beers unless you like drinking red syrupy horrible liquids.

I liked it far less than Gent. Or maybe my expectations were too high.

Always a pleasant place to visit for business. Never stayed there overnight though, always just a day trip.

I stayed in the Ibis near the Eurostar Station and found the area a bit intimidating, but the rest of the city seemed nice. I prefer Antwerp and Bruges which are both about an hour away by rail.
