I'm needed in Manchester on Friday for a days work. Wondering what the traffic up and back would be like. Need to be up there by 9:30am, travelling back after 16:30. Is driving a bad idea, should I be looking at the train or borrowing the company jet?

Any info would be good, cheers.

I don't think you can make an office in Mcr by 9:30, the earliest train from BRI is 6ish I think. Helicopter would be best.
Driving, also leave at 6.

Oh! Should have looked at that before asking, your right first train get there at 09:59. Too late. Might have to look at going up the evening before, if on the train.

Train is a no go. I'd be leaving at 5.30 to give myself time for traffic and a coffee stop.

Good luck on the way home!

Hahahahahaha.

Hahahahahaha.

Through Birmingham.

Hahahahahaha.

Sorry, good luck.

(Oh and M6 Toll will be worth a fiver each way - adds a few miles, saves endless time at the right time)

Could you not drive up the evening before?

Yea, going up the night before (drive or train) seems like the way forward. I'm still looking at a mare on the way home if i drive by the sounds of it.

Getting into and out of Manchester by road around rush hour (why do they call it rush hour?) on any route is horrendous.

IMHO Briss'ol to Manc by 9:30am = Book a hotel and travel the night before

or drive and leave by 5:00 5:30 and expect the worst

You are looking at going up the night before and coming back on Saturday.

Or you could do it the easy way and just play Russian Roulette!!!!

I'm serious. Going by car is a non starter.

As an ex Brummie working contracts in Manchester I refused to travel the M6/M5 on a Friday. It's something like I imagine hell to be.

Nice one guys. Looks like train up the night before is the way to go. Glad I double checked with the STW drivers.

I live in Leeds and if I want to be in Manchester for 08.00 I leave at 06.30 at the latest and it's only 45 miles, so good luck with that one. Also parking is pants and the wardens are psychotic.

No, lots of that is bollox; I've gotten to Mcr from Bristol many times for 9am. I spent last year doing BS to Stoke for 8am by leavng at 6. Mind, I'm only 15 mins from the M5/M4 junction. So if you leave at 5:45 you'll be in Manchester (where?) in time for your meeting.

As above what aload of horlicks unless its gone all to pot, about 7 years ago I had to go to Eccles several times for a 9:30am start and leaving bristol at about 6 was fine. As for returning well it might be busy but next friday will be much worse it will be fine you arnt traveling on a kids holiday just have some food and water and relax and eventualy you will return home again.
