My employer, high tech US based company has an office in Cambridge and another in London.
We’re expanding the office in Amsterdam to handle European business.
Precisely what 'The Bottom Line' link above is about.
'Business will adapt' said the Brexiteers. And it has, effectively moving jobs to the EU.
Slow hand clap for the Brexies....
👏

I hope my job moves me to the EU. Except it won't, because when the pound slides I'll effectively become cheaper.
Is someone going to tell the genius that is Dominic Raab that the Gigantic Orange **** isn't president any more?
🇬🇧🍑💩🤦♂️

Well... a border has to go somewhere. "We" wanted one, not them.
They're trying to get the US on side and portray the nip as both contravening the gfa and temporary. I'd say you couldn't make it up but plainly you can. You just lie, lie some more, then lie about your lies.
I've long since given up even being surprised by this bullshit and so apparently has everyone else. Legal action against the UK brought by the EU would be scandalous in any other time.
I love Dominic Raab. He's the perfect person to speak for Britain if you are a European. Clueless and wilfully ignorant and the whole world knows it.
The bottom line is that this lot couldn't give a flying **** about Ireland or the GFA. They never did. All the way through this whole ridiculous process they've treated it as an irritation
All that Raab and the rest of them are doing now is ensuring that when the car bombs and the assassinations start again, which they will if we carry on down this road, they can pin the blame for them on the EU.
From day one its been an utter disgrace how flippantly they've treated the hard won peace and how casual and uncaring they are about a potential return to violence. They just lazily assume that it can't happen. It can and it will unless they stop this ridiculous brinkmanship with the EU and start respecting international law
I can honestly see the EU not ratifying the deal, ergo UK ‘no deals’ and we kiss goodbye to any trade deal with the US as they are a joint signatory to the GFA - a ‘trivial’ detail that the Tories are keen to ignore. The EU might also apply sanctions which will also get the gammons frothing.
Well… a border has to go somewhere. “We” wanted one, not them.
Do we reckon the Brexity loons will have another crack at trotting out 'technology' or is that considered too blatantly bullshit even for them now?
the narrative now is all " beastly eu making us do this" rather like the abusive husband " look what you made me do now"
I suspect the EU is going to fight hard on this - it will be a year of leaky EU boarders and that they cannot tolerate and its funny how the EU side put in all infrastructure and processes needed but the UK side of the border is not even built yet
Quite. As Chris Grey points out, it's a curious kind of arrangement where there is an easier path for goods from the EU to come in to the UK, than for UK goods to go to the EU. I'm not sure this is the 'controlling our borders' the Brexiters had in mind.
Brexiters
mind
Wishful thinking?
Nah, the kind of 'controlling our borders' Leave voters want is machine gunning dinghies full of refugees.
There's still time for that, though. Priti is probably scoping it out now.
The Gammons still aren't happy! I would have expected that the Brexit fulfilment euphoria would have propelled us to No 1. Instead the UK fell from 13th to 17th place.
Blue Passports!
It'll be the fault of the whinging remainers - miserable bastards ruining the metrics... 😆
The word ‘metric’ triggered memories. Here are early sightings of ‘they have ruddy cheek’ type anti-EU protests:
(20 years ago the EU flag was burning on the streets of Northern England, yet you remoaners had your eyes closed, probably too busy drinking your continental lagers and dipping your French bread in your German coffee

The pint is safe. That is the only ‘metric’ we require to concern ourselves with. Job done.

Good lord id forgotten about those
Never really got the issue with swapping to metric, always just seems a clearer, easier system 🤷
yet you remoaners had your eyes closed
Worse than that, I was in the French mountains for half a year, in theory spending my time exploring the mountains by bike and by foot, but in practice working my way through every available cheese and trying to find the best dirt cheap wine.
I seem to recall finding more than one sub euro option that was palatable.
Do we reckon the Brexity loons will have another crack at trotting out ‘technology’ or is that considered too blatantly bullshit even for them now?
Theres a couple of places I lurk on the internet to see what some Brexiteers are thinking. I remember with just months to go seeing “technology” touted as a solution. They did actually seem to think it was possible to design, build and deploy such a thing in just a few months. Bizarre really. I never understood how you can simplify something in your head that is so blatantly complex.
Because solutions to the problems brexit caused are all wishful thinking. Brexit is all about petty prejudices without any logical basis so to expect logic from its supporters is ridiculous
Because solutions to the problems brexit caused are all wishful thinking. Brexit is all about petty prejudices without any logical basis so to expect logic from its supporters is ridiculous
Brexit is a lie. The big one.
The disappointing thing is how many people wanted to be lied to.
Because solutions to the problems brexit caused are all wishful thinking.
Normally when I engage in “wishful thinking” I internally asses whatever it is and unless it actually is simple and I know it’s simple then I don’t think it’s simple. If I don’t understand then I don’t conclude it’d be simple. Even if I really want it to be. I internally categorise it as of unknown complexity. That’s the bit I don’t get and completely ignoring Brexit, why would you conclude whether something would be simple or not based on ignorance.
why would you conclude whether something would be simple or not based on ignorance
Because.....ignorance.
With a large dose of puffed up 'confidence' based on stupidity and Blitz Spirit, or something....
And that's the irony the gullible masses can't see.
The core realisation of Cummings et al was just how stupid or willing to be deceived so many people are. Their campaigning tactics - three word slogans, union jacks etc - are actually a massive sneering insult to the intelligence of the electorate. And that electorate reward those tactics by voting for them. It is very depressing.
piemonster - because brexit is illogical then its the old case of garbage in garbage out
You want brexit then all concerns are dismissed and all solutions are simple because brexit is simple. Comnplex siolutions or insolubale conundrums like the NI boarder must be wrong because brexit is simple.
its self delusion.
Brexits a McGuffin.
It’s just another gravy train for a select few and the opportunity to remove more ‘annoying’ rights.
Truest word ever said by a U.K. politician was ‘Brexit means Brexit’
Brexits a McGuffin.
It’s just another gravy train for a select few and the opportunity to remove more ‘annoying’ rights.
And all the while the parasites suck the life out of the social contract they can convince the prats that voted for it that they are 'sticking it to the elite'.
I might have to swap sides at some point. This is one-off free for all and the prats are wanting to be relieved of their lifestyle bit by bit. I'll get me a union jack branded website and 'consult' on something.
Lovely jubbly.
They did actually seem to think it was possible to design, build and deploy such a thing in just a few months.
The politicians told them that because they wanted their support. And they chose to believe it, because it made them feel good to think that they could have all the good things and be proud of their country somehow.
I just think it’s never right all the things I had, free milk (till it got snatched),free further education, student allowance, cheap housing and freedom to work, travel or learn in the eu, all gradually taken away and turned into money making schemes over the course of my life.
Topped of with draconian laws to protect statues and prevent protest.
As dudeofdoom points out the relentless erosion of rights, freedoms, pay, pensions, working conditions since Thatcher beat the Miners is quite staggering and Labour has struggled to prevent this due to successive Tory Governments and i was never sure Blair did much to prevent it.
The social contract has been slowly shredded and the NHS pay offer simply demonstrates this.
I have said on here before that i believe that this government has broken that contract and i no longer believe i need to honour my end of that contract.
So i am defunding the government (i know its a shitty approach but i have no other weapon) by legally reducing my tax contribution - i aim to reduce it by 50% from a corporation tax perspective - utilise Rishis 130% fill up pension funds for all the team, R&D tax credits.... might lodge an office in a Freeport?
That happiness story, surely the BBC's headline ought to have been "The UK fell from 13th to 17th place"?
I have said on here before that i believe that this government has broken that contract and i no longer believe i need to honour my end of that contract.
Not the Govt, the people - enough of them are selfish & stupid, or maybe stupid & selfish. They don't see why they should pay for someone else, but can't see that they're also a benefactor. At some point in anyone's life we're a benefactor of someone else's taxes.
I have said on here before that i believe that this government has broken that contract and i no longer believe i need to honour my end of that contract.
Ditto.
I have said on here before that i believe that this government has broken that contract and i no longer believe i need to honour my end of that contract.
So i am defunding the government
But that doesn't hurt the government, it hurts the poor sods who depend on them. Tax isn't paying the government, it's paying society.

Maybe the 'poor sods' need to chose a better 'government' next time, then...
Tax isn’t paying the government, it’s paying society.
Wrong away round, Govts spend the money first, then collect the tax, and arguably tax(s) sole function is to keep money out of circulation.
to any trade deal with the US as they are a joint signatory to the GFA
The parties to the Belfast Agreement are Britain, Ireland and the main Northern Ireland political parties (as they were in 1998). The US takes an interest in it, was involved diplomatically during negotiations, and I think sometimes unilaterally styles itself as a guarantor. The same is true of the EU, which also was not involved in it, though undoubtedly the march of the single market was a very important part of the background to the negotiations. Thus statements you may read that the EU or US is a "guarantor" of it are about political rather than legal status vis a vis the Agreement, they are not parties in the legal sense and certainly weren't signatories. But this is not in any way to belittle the importance of those long-established political positions. In international law, the politics is normally the most important bit.
Having said that the EU has become indirectly concerned with the agreement in a legal sense via the Northern Ireland Protocol.
When do the “Rip Off Britain” headlines start appearing?

Maybe the ‘poor sods’ need to chose a better ‘government’ next time, then…
Yeah not that simple is it. They didn't choose one this time around, thanks to the endless stream of bullshit they're subjected to, so why would they next time? Meanwhile everyone suffers, including their kids and the ones who didn't even vote for the government in the first place.
Maybe the ‘poor sods’ need to chose a better ‘government’ next time, then…
This relies on the assumption that everyone who benefits from funding for public services such as the NHS, education and the welfare system, as well as investment in public projects, such as roads, rail and housing all voted for this Government.
Those of us who can defund the government should if you dont agree with its policies. As an employee there is little you can do ad a business owner there is a fair bit you can do.
I agree that it impacts ordinary people including the ones who voted for the current Boris * wits. However we must use whatever tools we have to try and change things and currently no amount of "common sense" will change brexity folks mind or simple facts like export disasters.
Rishi can not go on borrowing cash the right wing of the party is already in meltdown over this.. the Corporation tax hike will not raise anymore cash from the big guys in fact quite the opposite with his 130% tax allowance. He is after the middle ground the business that cant offshore and is driven by dividends £250k net profit is not huge in SME land and the hike from to 25% is massive - in my business thats going to be an additional £30k on Corporation tax and a new graduate job that will not be created.
As i have said back up the thread i will retrench no new jobs and no new PAYE and utilise all the legal tax management i can. * em people need to understand the implications of voting for jingoistic nationalist shite.
Oldman- I’m with you. Although, you need to be sure that you’re not actually being a baddy. Business owner hoarding profits, tax avoidance etc. Make sure you’ll be happy with your decision in 10 years time.
FWIW, brexit was a huge driver in me emigrating from the uk last year. Despite loving where I lived, I was livid at having my EU citizenship stripped from me, and having to watch the unfolding car crash that is the government and their opposition. I wanted to take my tax and and set up elsewhere for a while. I’m very happy to not be contributing to the uk at the mo.
Once things straighten out I’ll be back to do my bit again.
This is the news article that will turn the tide against the government. Come on, who was it?

Isn’t that another Brexit irony, turning you into what you hate.
Another win for Brexit ?
Or another win for Tory divide and conquer ?
Oddly i wasn’t vehemently anti Tory till Brexit and I actually think ‘Thatcha’ had her heart in the right place but this batch.
Oddly i wasn’t vehemently anti Tory till Brexit and I actually think ‘Thatcha’ had her heart in the right place but this batch.
I'm not a million miles off this myself although 'heart' never came into it with Thatcher. Much of what she did needed to happen in one way or another, but the manner of it didn't have to be like it was. That was caused by intransigence on both sides and the 'previous' between (particularly the miners) workers in 'old' industries and the tories.
This current rabble are not the traditional conservative party the blue rinsers think they are voting for. This is a kleptocracy being given a populist front by nationalist nutters. The tories have been parasitised by this sect - cleverly manipulated by Farage - although many of them had these urges in them, the 'respectable image' of the tories kept much of it in line. Brexit legitimised nationalism, populism, racism, xenophobia and the rest. The real profiteers don't give a shit about that, though. What they are after is a last chance, one-off pay day as the postwar consensus is dismantled and exposed to 'market forces'. That is a rigged 'market', naturally, where being the mate of a minister is the qualifying factor.
Brexit is an utter disgrace. Nationally, internationally, you name it. Actively voting to make ourselves much more difficult to trade with whilst blaming the institution we voted to leave from for our self-inflicted problems? And all because of resentment. A nation in full denial mode after having a pant-shitting tantrum because our closest neighbours won't give us what 'we' want after kicking them in the balls.
**** Brexit and all who sail in her.
Those of us who can defund the government should if you dont agree with its policies.
I disagree. I think, like international economic sanctions, this will hurt the wrong people.
So i am defunding the government
No, you're not. The government creates it's own money so will never run out. All you are doing, like any other wealthy person who evades tax, is transferring the necessary burden of removing money from the economy to prevent runaway inflation from yourself to others who are less able to pay. Think about that for a second.
I’m very happy to not be contributing to the uk
See above. The uk doesn't need your contribution, because it can create it's own money. If you're no longer in the UK, you're no longer contributing to inflationary pressures, so the tax you're not paying is irrelevant. It's really not a cause for self-congratulation.
