Not me.

I once shoplifted a scented rubber (pencil eraser, quiet at the back) when I was walking home from primary school.

I spent about the next fortnight shitting myself, every time the doorbell rang I thought it was the police coming to take me away. Thus endething my promising career in a life of crime.

Of course I have - rarely intentionally, but broken a few due to carelessness

Not me, I've been a right villain over the years. You wouldn't believe the amount of parking tickets I've had. It's just the way I roll.

Living in a rural area I *may* have exercised for longer than the permitted 30 mins or whatever it was during the initial lockdown.

I was also attending work at the office for most of the lockdown but that was within the guidelines / recommendations. That said we we didn't drink at work even when putting the long hours in, a few guys left the team during this period and there were no parties thrown. Our Xmas do for the last 2 years has been done virtually via video call. Team of 10 or so having a drink and blethering remotely. A few carried on into the wee hours. Remotely.

I recall at primary school 'you' would reach into the freezer at the newsagents and now and again maybe an ice pop or two would accidentally go up inside your sleeve...

F the system!

I wonder how many people will have to catch themselves confusing breaking the laws and being caught breaking the law.

There are a few things that I'm (very) not proud of, but there are also a few 'experiences' I'm glad I did not do the right thing and miss out on.

I remember hearing a radio interview decades ago with a senior FBI guy who said that it's impossible to walk down the street without breaking some law - there are so many that nobody actually knows them all. If cops want to arrest someone on bogus holding charges they can always find some pretext, but his point was that good policing shouldn't rely on that and that trivial violations should be ignored. American cops are still doing that, it's a big part of their policing problem.

I also remember when I was at school and we got taken on a courthouse visit and a prosecutor pointed out that there are hundreds or thousands of archaic laws that are no longer relevant. For example, galloping a horse furiously within city limits.

I'm guessing that anyone who rides a bike probably commits trivial and harmless violations all the time. Lucky we aren't black kids in an American city.

Surely everyone has broken a law at some point?

All drivers have at some point broken the law? Parking, speeding etc.

Bought alcohol when under 18?

I'd say it's almost impossible to reach middle age without breaking a single law, I can think of quite a few I broke before I reached 20.
A fair few before the age of 16.

Caught however, some minor motoring offenses.

I once lifted a packet of Trebor soft fruits from a Thresher.

And when I was about10, I took a free gift off the front of a comic. Duty solicitor please.

Constable Savage comes to mind. Although I believe that walking in a loud shirt in a built-up area or walking around with an offensive wife isn't actually illegal.

Can think of a few irregularities
...but then I wasn't brought up to believe the law didn't apply to me and my school / university chums

No front and back reflector though.

Plus the yellows don't match. Throw away the key.

I once stole a Chomp (BITD when they were 5p, so aeons ago, I think I was 11 or 12 or something) and felt so guilty I tried to overpay for the next one. The fella in the shop wasn't having it so I put the 5p in the Sooty charity box instead. I am a terrible person.

I like to think I stay within the spirit of the law, if not the actual law.

If you count speeding in car then pretty much every day
Also rode brakeless fixed gear for 10+ years so every ride was breaking the law

That is all that comes to mind and have never actually broken any laws that I consider serious/actually matter to me (burglary, murder, rape - that sort of thing)

Yes, but only in a limited and specific way, which apparently is ok

My SIA license for CVIT work with enhanced clearance levels that allows me to be let into Bank of England holding facilities (only when on company business and I no longer work there) says that I have an exemplary record only spoilt by a speeding ticket back in 2018.

If only they knew what bored kids in the countryside got up to...

In the late eighties and early nineties a whole generation of young people broke the law every weekend.😀

Got interviewed under caution last year, which is the closest I've been to being nabbed for any crime.

I don’t think I’ve ever broken the law. I don’t drive, so I’ve missed out on all of those. Didn’t drink underage. Never dropped litter. The only thing I can think of is copying albums onto tape.

I did 16 years as a prison officer.
I could relate more to some cons than staff.
Only been done for a faulty handbrake on a Mini & a speeding ticket but not the other stuff.

"In 2014, the UK Government briefly amended the law to allow Format Shifting for personal use. However, this exemption was overturned by Judicial Review a few months later. This means that Format Shifting remains illegal in the UK, even for personal use, or for sharing media with other members of a household."

It's also illegal to be drunk in a pub, restaurant or on the street.

Indeed. However, I was unsure if it was considered a “big one”. When I was a teen, practically everyone copied their albums onto tape to play in their Walkman. I have never heard of anyone being prosecuted for this. Nor, of the police staking out the homes of people making mix-tapes.

Many Many Many times. The only time I got handcuffed and stuffed into cells for a few days was a total mistake on their part. My Spanish wasn't good enough to win them over.

Once or twice. Most recently today, driving my car which ran out of MOT yesterday. Motoring offences don't really count though..........
