Sorry. Are you seriously suggesting that someone noted down a conversation as well as details of the meeting from 10 years ago, just in case Phil happened to shake hands with them at a later date.

Yes, that's their job. They're "protocol officers", and they're there to do just that.

At the train station on the way home just now they'd replaced the ad board videos with his sillouhette & his dates

Was a bit weird

Anyway will the funeral be 30 people max, if so that'll wind up the rioting Loyalists in NI even more!

Di was at least a shock - not that it affected me - but Philip? He was nearly 100, hardly a surprise is it.

I’d heard on fairly good authority he died a few weeks back, would make sense as to why there are loads of programmes ready.

His death triggered a memory from my school days. Some of my witty chums had written a play for a drama competition, it was a sort of heist/caper plot thing. One of the better gags (possibly not original) was:

We shall rob the Duke of Edinburgh's polo* factory!

Oh no not....

Yes! The Royal Mint!

Yes I am that old, he was still playing polo then.

Even they halted, hence my previous post of cancelling Saturday morning cartoons.

Yes that really annoyed me (and my then-small children) as well. A few years later my son was also angry that, when Charles decided to re-marry, they shoved a wildlife programme off the schedule so they could run a Camilla story. So angry in fact that he wrote to the BBC saying how disappointed he was that they had replaced a programme about crabs with one about Camilla.

To be fair the media outlets, journalists etc have had years to write his obituaries, so everything's been in the can or the draft folder. So theres a ton of content to just drop today. I'm avoiding it all like any sane person though

By all means, run the tributes, say the nice things… but on all BBC channels? The same content? It’s all a bit North Korea.

I was driving earlier and thought my radio was broken. It's a bit mutch. Ia am royal agnostic but it's this shit tha makes me anti!

Yessss, but that was also true of most of the stuff they've cancelled in order to show it. Not to suggest that Jamie Walker putting the sixth past Neil Parry in the 88th minute was in any way pre-ordained.

You must to be to young to remember 1997, when prince Di died.
Complete media shutdown for 24 hours, no TV or radio just a constant loop of the same

I think that was out of embarrassment for the shi**y way they treated her, led and directed by the daily mail.
The heartfelt outpourings of consolation was completely the opposite to the nasty spiteful things said about her.

Who killed Diana ?, why the British people and tabloid 'journalists' and their clamouring for sick gossip.

No, I remember. When does the 21st century start for Britain?

Maybe I’m a heartless bastard, but I don’t feel anything about Phil’s death.

Paul Ritter on the other hand. 😥

Of course you did. The TV programmes were all ready because he was in hospital for quite a time (so likely to die, so get the programmes ready) and then he was sent home from hospital to die at home (so definitely going to die, so get the programmes even more ready)

So they werent fleeing an intrusive paparazzi then ?. Daily mail et all prime buyers of their pics, to feed to a clamouring public ?. 10 stories a day on Diana and who she was with, anything and everything ripe for public intrusion.

I hadn't realized it was all that simple. Thanks for putting me straight on that.

Yeah, I've already corrected an arse hole from the Cairngorms National Park Authority lauding on about Philip being an environmentalist and pointing out the upland desert that is much of Deeside, including Balmoral estate. Why the need to re-write history. If you've nothing nice to say about him, don't make something up.

So presumably when the queen goes the bbc will realise that they need to top this, but how? Freedom of thought and expression really isn’t valued in this country at all.

Bit embarrassed that RadMac have joined in, at the very least pull a sickie chaps!

More often than not, it was Diana who notified the paparazzi as to where they could intrude on her private life, so that the gullible public could be appalled by the intrusion.

Has all other news stopped?

Surely the BBC have a duty to report other news and cater for the whole population.

Jesus things will go ballistic when the queen dies. It'll be like Britain's 911

I remember how a mere one minutes silence was considered insufficient given the gravity of 911 so they increased it to two. Someonen BBC will count up the screen time given to Phil and apply a multiplier of x4 or something

As someone in the know has suggested further up, those plans are in place.

The weather forecast has just been on.

I'm pretty disgusted that the weather hasn't stopped to pay its respects.

This is nauseating and embarrassing now.

Some bloke from from the Royal Institute of Engineers or something, telling tales of PP challenging young engineers on renewable energy and 5g technology.

Utter BS.

There's a special BBC complaints page set up if you want to have a bit of a say about the ****ing ridiculous amount of coverage and fawning-

I love a 'good authority' story. Don't tell us, you can't say who.

wait until Joe Cocker pops his clogs.

I have it on good authority, it's planned for a week Thursday and then every 10 days after that.

I did find it weird watching last night (not watching but was on while we were waiting for gogglebox) - all the past tense tributes from his sombrely dressed children. Of course he would die eventually, and so there would be a time these pieces to camera would be needed, but how odd - I guess it's part of being a member of the firm.

That page is there solely so that in a few days the BBC can wring their hands and sob that despite all the wonderful coverage across all their outlets there were still x thousand anti-patriotic soulless miserable gits who dared to suggest that it might be a little bit much.

That occurred to me quite early on.

Much as the overreaction by the Press is annoying, the over reaction by a few of the haterz for one or two days lost broadcasting is amusing. Normally we complain there's nothing on worth watching, now there really isn't, we're missing what we used to complain about.

Been trying to ignore all the sycophancy and restrain myself from goading people, but one thing I've found quite illuminating is that despite all the rubbish about democracy etc, when it comes down to it the UK state isn't much different from North Korea. Apparently according to the BBC we're a 'nation united in grief', well I went out for a bike ride yesterday and bought some beer from the supermarket and didn't see much sign of that. Even the local gammon facebook groups seemed fairly apathetic. The fantasy imagined by the establishment of a nation of 'subjects' distraught at the death of one of their rulers really is a fantasy isn't it? There may be some hope yet.

In current circumstances when people are beginning to get a bit wary of how the flag is being hi-jacked, I'm not so sure the tsunami of guff written and broadcast about this individual is going to produce more royalists. But it is astonishing how brilliant they are getting people who have the best part of very little sticking up for this shower. You'd have to live to 199 to earn all those medals, or not. It's a fraud and they're sitting there in the biggest garden in London having a right good laugh about how having paid for his super-indulged life we'll be picking up his funeral bill too.
NB. The best comment I've read came from Zarah Sultana. those in education could use that as an exemplar of brilliant construction, better than Johnson's penned speech for D Spencer which was very good if standard fare.
