You are ignoring the fact that they generate over £400 million for the economy per anum

Meh. Being in the EU was worth £85bn a year, which we ripped up to 'save' £12bn.

I'd happily forego that £400m just to see one of the things the flagshaggers hold dear smashed on the ground in front of them.

Vive la republique!

Sure, because there's no economic value to royal palaces and land without a royal family.

hmm there was that time he nearly killed a 9 month old baby

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/prince-philip-car-crash-accident-baby-sandringham-land-rover-norfolk-police-latest-a8734036.html

and no mention of his illegitimate kids with cabaret singer Helene Cordet ?

(im sure he just paid for the school fees coz hes a softy for single mums)

Car crash mentioned in the BBC montage at lunchtime and a "nudge nudge wink wink" reference to his "social circle" as well, to my surprise.

Seems people arent allowed an opinion in your book, so perhaps you should stick to some forum section where personal opinion isnt allowed.

Sooooo after criticising me for not allowing others to have an opinion (which I didn't, I just pointed out they were rather worn out tropes) you are then suggesting I don't post on an open forum because you didn't like what I posted. A little bity of self awareness goes a long way.

RIP Prince Philip.

I was rooting for to him to reach a century.
He brought a lot of laughter to many with his comments.

nickc: "They’re all waiting in line and shaking hands…Phillip says hello to my dad, shakes his hand goes onto the next chump in line; stops, takes a pace back and says to him, “Weren’t you in charge of that bunch of unruly scouts? Hong Kong wasn’t it?”

Good story. Make me laugh.

Urgh.

The vomit-inducing 'our' prince and 'our' flag bullshit has started in earnest on Facebook.

Looking on the bright side it might induce another timely cull of people I should never have 'friended' in the first place.

Vive la republique!

Why?

Cos everybody already knows who they're voting for?

This, I think Hal probably had it nailed on though. I think Question of Sport was supposed to be back on tonight too. Bugger. Sad for anyone to lose a partner/dad/grandad and all that, condolences etc., but really, to cancel everything? We'll have to converse, FFS.

Hardly worn out dear boy, now a monarchy, supreme leader of the state religion, fawning, knowing your place in the pecking order, doff your cap, tug your forelock that’s worn out

You know how sometimes you do a google search and learn something really surprising?

Yup. And I've just learnt from the telly that the Queen has a son called Edward. She's kept quiet about him. I don't even know what he looks like.

Is the BBC going to be like this for a couple of weeks?

Just asked my brother and he also asked his Radio 1/2/6 mate and they didn’t know. Know when the Queen goes there is no comedy etc broadcast for at something like 7 days.

Not as quiet as she keeps about Andrew these days...

They'd be very upset if they knew who his sisters had married.....

I know there have been plenty of signs recently, but suspending all TV must be the clearest sign so far that this country is bat shit mental. By all means, run the tributes, say the nice things… but on all BBC channels? The same content? It’s all a bit North Korea.

I'd say Dude From That Meme would definitely be a bigger loss than Iconic Rapper or Really Old Man tbh. But I think when it's just a leg that'd be rude

Pretty sure this is what happened with Diana as well. Still, at least 25 years on we have better choice of alternative viewing

Lots of people have died in this last year, I am no more upset about this one.
However if I wanted to know how good he was at driving a boat, I’d be happy to seek out the one radio channel that was telling me. To have all channels on it is bizarre and annoying.

not to mention his couple off spin overs he bowled 68 years ago, nice action apparantly but didn't mention his figures so i assume he went none for a lot.

I really do think that a national broadcaster shouldn't blanket broadcast this fauning drivel. We are not all that interested.
RIP hrh Prince Phillip.

I know. Seems a bit overkill to have it on BBC1 and BBC2 simultaneously. At least Kingsman is on Film4.

I was going to make a joke about that but it was actually a step too far...

You must to be to young to remember 1997, when prince Di died.
Complete media shutdown for 24 hours, no TV or radio just a constant loop of the same
story starting on each hour. Back in those days we only had 5 TV channels, unless you paid money to murdoc to have sky.
Normal radio stations shut down as well, not just BBC but commercial as well.

you can’t just stream whatever you want off iPlayer?! Can’t say I noticed... Surely this only affects the 3 people in the country who still watch TV channels? 🤣

This programe on bbc 1 now with his kids talking about him retrospectively, is this recorded today or before his death. Both option seem bizarre, I was fairly anti monarchy before watching this, poor sods don’t get left alone do they. Guess that’s the price for £££££
