We are just sorting out cover for a 5 yo touran so hoping it wont be needed but there is a massive disparity in the price from AA/RAC and lesser know providers.
AA/RAC are the wrong side of £110 while Kwik-Fit/Allianz are around £50.
Some others I've never heard of only want £30ish.
I'm pretty sure that only AA/Rac have their own fleet so that might be why it costs more and all the others presumably just act as a broker and place the cover with a central firm and then use sub-contract recovery agents?
I'm assuming that at the bottom end of the price you get what you pay for but what about those middle range? Anyone use one in a time of need and been happy, or have problems?

Cheers

Green flag here as a £30 add on via Direct Line insurance, though not needed to use it so can't really comment on service, sorry I know that probably doesn't help....

If you can afford to pay for work upfront in an emergency and then reclaim, AutoAid is probably the best value. They use whatever service is closest to you rather than having their own fleet.
Some bank accounts with monthly fees also offer breakdown cover (along with mobile phone insurance etc), so that can be a cost effective way too

I've had breakdown cover via Insurance Choice fora few years, they operate in a similar way to Green Flag and these sorts of folk by just running a call centre and using local providers.

Had to use them 3 times unfortunately and had great service each time so would recommend.

Green Flag, although I normally just lump breakdown cover in with my insurance so I don't have to think about another thing to renew.

We have some through a mob called quoteline direct. £40odd a year for their highest level of cover. Absolutely top notch on the numerous occassions we've had to call them out.

I used Auto Aid for years (until I discovered I had free breakdown cover with something else) and my one claim was paid back within a week.

I've used AutoAid previously BUT never had to call them out so can't comment on the service when it's actually required. At time I looked though the review comments were pretty favorable.
